Sommelier / Director of Wine

2941 Restaurant is seeking a highly driven and experienced Sommelier / Director of Wine to lead and execute our wine program at the highest level. This is a leadership role for a professional who is equally strong in purchasing, organization, and guest-facing service, with a deep passion for wine and hospitality.
As a key member of the management team, the Sommelier will be responsible for the strategic direction, daily execution, and overall performance of the wine program, while maintaining the standards of excellence that define 2941 Restaurant.
Key Responsibilities
- Wine Program Leadership
- Curate, maintain, and continuously refine a dynamic and profitable wine list aligned with the restaurant’s identity
- Ensure proper structure, pricing, and positioning of all wines
- Drive sales through intelligent selection and guest engagement
- Purchasing & Inventory Management
- Oversee all wine purchasing decisions with a focus on quality, value, and turnover
- Maintain accurate, organized, and up-to-date inventory in the POS system
- Monitor product movement, eliminate underperforming items, and optimize stock levels
- Ensure proper storage and handling of all wines
- Floor Presence & Guest Experience
- Work the dining room floor during service, providing elevated, intuitive wine service
- Guide guests through selections with confidence, clarity, and professionalism
- Collaborate closely with the service team to enhance the overall dining experience
- Team Education & Development
- Train and educate staff on wine knowledge, service standards, and sales techniques
- Lead ongoing tastings and ensure the team is confident in presenting the wine program
- Operational Excellence
- Maintain consistency in wine list formatting, terminology, and presentation
- Follow and execute leadership direction while contributing ideas and solutions
- Uphold accountability, organization, and clear communication across departments
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Sommelier or Wine Director in a fine dining environment
- Strong knowledge of global wine regions, producers, and styles
- Experience with purchasing, inventory control, and POS systems
- Exceptional guest service skills and professional presence on the floor
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to lead, train, and collaborate with a team
- A proactive mindset with a solution-oriented approach
