Preferred Apartment Communities is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Property Accounting Manager to join our team. This individual will play a key role in the month-end close process, financial reporting, and team management for a portfolio of multifamily properties. Reporting directly to the Controller, the Property Accounting Manager will oversee the accounting and reporting functions for 15-18 properties, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with industry standards. Key Responsibilities: Financial Close & Reporting: Lead the month-end close process for a portfolio of multifamily properties, typically spanning a 10-business-day period. Review and finalize monthly financial statement workbooks, ensuring alignment with corporate accounting policies. Assist with the preparation and review of various month-end reports, including NOI (Net Operating Income) analysis and consolidated schedules for key balance sheet items like real estate taxes and insurance. Analysis & Consolidation: Oversee the preparation of consolidated financial schedules, ensuring accuracy in the tracking and reporting of large balance sheet items. Provide insightful analysis of financial performance, identifying trends and variances to support decision-making by senior management. Team Management & Development: Manage and mentor a team of 2-3 direct reports at the staff and senior accountant levels. Provide training, support, and professional development opportunities, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented environment. Conduct regular performance reviews, offering constructive feedback to ensure ongoing professional development. Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with other members of the accounting and finance teams to enhance processes, streamline reporting, and ensure accurate data across all financial statements. Act as a liaison between the accounting team and other departments, promoting a cohesive approach to financial management. Creating Efficiencies and Improving Processes Work with other accounting managers, Controller, and leaders in other Company departments to identify areas for improvement in month-end close and deliverables to our operating partners Ad-hoc projects, i.e. creating consolidated workbooks spanning the portfolio to aid in review of financials Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred. 5 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in real estate or multifamily property management. Strong understanding of financial reporting, month-end close processes, and NOI analysis. Demonstrated leadership skills with experience managing and developing accounting teams. Proficient in accounting software, Yardi and Entrata preferred, with advanced knowledge of Excel. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
