Department: 02410 AHNMG Cardiothoracic Surgery: 575 1st St - Surgery: Thoracic Status: Full time Benefits Eligible: Yes Hours Per Week: 40 Schedule Details/Additional Information: Weekdays Pay Range $34.90 - $52.35 Job Summary Under indirect supervision, performs all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation and archiving of general and specialized ultrasound images.Responsible for the care of the patient while in the ultrasound department. Performs portable US exams based on provider order and/or patient condition. Positions patients and selects appropriate protocol to demonstrate anatomy of area of interest based on accepted General US and advanced ultrasound/sonography principles such as Pediatric US, Vascular US and Breast US. Judges diagnostic quality of finished medical images and processes preliminary reports and/or work sheets prior to submission to physician for interpretation. Identifies and documents any limitations to the sonography examination. Customizes each patient exam based on accepted ultrasound/sonography principles to optimize the diagnostic value of each specific imaging encounter. Applies independent judgment during the sonography examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images. Assists radiologist with US guidance for advanced specialty US procedure such as biopsies or aspirations as needed. Reviews all diagnostic ultrasound requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. All questionable orders are communicated to the ordering provider and any unresolved concerns are taken to the interpreting physician for final approval. Provides relevant patient history and/or codes for all ultrasound procedures based on facility requirements. Performs clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing and archiving of patient record. Offers detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients prior and answers questions as appropriate. Observes patient while in ultrasound for change in status and makes appropriate intervention or contacts primary care givers for instruction. Identifies and corrects problems as appropriate with all critical occurrences reported to the next level of authority. Maintains all required continuing education and applicable certifications as an ultrasound technologist. Ensures equipment is maintained to assure conformance of specific operational standards including US equipment and Trophon if applicable. Education, Training, and Experience Must be a High School or GED Diploma Graduate. Graduate of AMA approved school of Radiologic Technology, vascular or cardiovascular ultrasound program, or BS in Ultrasound. Minimum one year experience in a Specialty area of Vascular US, Breast US or Pediatric US. Registered Sonographer through ARDMS or ARRT. In addition, registered or registry eligible through ARDMS as a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), Registered Breast US technologist or Registered Pediatric US technologist. Specialty Registry required within one year of employment. Under indirect supervision, performs all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation and archiving of vascular ultrasound images. Responsible for the care of the patient while in the ultrasound department. Takes a thorough vascular history and assesses the patient's vascular status as it relates to the type of testing ordered. Writes preliminary reports on IP charts and calls preliminary reports OP to referring provider when necessary. Performs tests ordered by the provider in a timely and professional manner. Assists the reading provider by analyzing and evaluating the results of the study. Selects appropriate transducers and adjusts controls for examinations to optimize consistently image quality according to patient's size and the objective of the exam. Explains to patients and family members each examination to be performed and professionally answers any questions they may have. Provides the patient with comfort, privacy, and instructions to assure a high quality result. Ensures efficient and proper functioning of ultrasound equipment and cleaning according to manufacturer's specifications. Provides input for equipment and supply purchases. Communicates equipment malfunctions as appropriate. Responsible for specific quality assurance and control duties in the assigned area. Generates a work atmosphere that maintains a positive attitude toward teamwork. Maintains a work area that is clean, orderly, and stocked with necessary supplies. Communicates with referring offices as necessary.
