JOB TITLE

Shunt Driver & Warehouse operator

SUMMARY

We are looking for a Shunt Driver / Warehouse team member is responsible for the safe, efficient movement of trailers between local warehouses, between loading bays, parking areas, and designated staging zones. This role ensures smooth yard flow, helps in the warehouse and operations, and maintains high safety and compliance standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Move trailers between yard positions, docks, loading areas, and parking zones
• Conduct pre‑use and post‑use inspections of tractor units and trailers
• Ensure trailers are correctly positioned for loading and unloading according to schedules
• Communicate with warehouse teams, transport planners, and gatehouse personnel
• Maintain accurate records of trailer movements using yard management systems or logs
• Perform basic coupling and uncoupling of trailers safely and efficiently
• Support yard organization, including positioning trailers for outbound dispatch
• Report defects, damages, and safety hazards promptly
• Adhere to all site rules, health and safety standards, and traffic management procedures
• Assist in the warehouse when necessary

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Valid New York Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
• Experience operating yard tractors, terminal trucks, forklift or similar equipment
• Strong understanding of trailer coupling, uncoupling, and dock procedures
• Good communication skills and ability to work with dispatch and warehouse teams
• Ability to navigate tight spaces safely and confidently
• Knowledge of site safety protocols and traffic flow rules
• Reliable, punctual, and attentive to detail

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in logistics, warehousing, or distribution center environments
• Familiarity with yard management systems (YMS)
• Basic mechanical knowledge to identify trailer or tractor defects

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to climb in and out of tractor units’ multiple times per shift
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Ability to lift or maneuver equipment up to standard safety limits

WORKING CONDITIONS

• Yard-based, outdoor-focused role
• May involve shifts, including nights, weekends from time to time
