One of our small agency clients is looking for a Broadcast Media Director to join their team asap for an all-new position on their activation/buying team.

This Broadcast Media Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of broadcast media buying for the agency and its clients, and must have proven experience managing/leading a small team of buyers (7-10 direct reports).

The Broadcast Media Director must be a subject matter expert in the broadcast landscape, with expert level knowledge of traditional linear TV, connected TV (CTV), radio, and emerging broadcast platforms; able to provide strategic guidance to clients and internal teams, and drive innovation with video/audio buying practices and media ops/reconciliation to achieve superior results.

Ideal Media Director Candidates Will Have

– At least 10 years of experience in broadcast media buying

– At least 5 years in a formal leadership or management role with 7-10 direct reports.

– Demonstrated ability to motivate, develop, and retain a high-performing team.

– Strong understanding of the evolving broadcast landscape, including Connected TV (CTV), OTT, and programmatic TV.

– Proven track record of media strategy development, successful negotiation, broadcast buying and buy management and a deep network of industry contacts.

– Exceptional leadership, communication, and presentation skills.

– Highly analytical with the ability to interpret data and translate it into actionable insights.

– Fully proficient with industry standard tools and platforms (i.e. STRATA, Mediaocean, Nielsen, Comscore).

Job Responsibilities

Leadership and Team Development:

– Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of broadcast media buyers, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

– Develop and implement individualized growth plans for team members, providing regular performance feedback and opportunities for skill enhancement.

– Act as a trusted leader and escalation point for the team, resolving complex issues and ensuring the team has the resources and support needed to succeed.

– Recruit, onboard, and train new talent, building a pipeline of skilled professionals for the agency.

Strategic Vision And Client Partnership

– Collaborate with planning teams to set the strategic direction for all broadcast media initiatives, ensuring alignment with agency goals and client objectives.

– Work across individual market-level buys to ensure the work of individual buyers is laddering back to the overarching strategy set for each initiative.

– Serve as the primary broadcast subject matter expert for key clients and internal stakeholders, providing proactive, forward-thinking guidance on market trends and opportunities.

– Champion new approaches and technologies, leading the adoption of innovative buying strategies to deliver a competitive advantage for our clients.

Act As a “Player / Coach” Within Buying Operations

– Deep Dive into Specifics and Media Process Ownership, actively reviewing and refining workflows for buying, order placement, and market analysis.

– Active Collaboration on Execution: Proactively collaborate with individual team members on mission-critical, detail-oriented tasks, serving as a working partner rather than just an overseer. This participation includes, but is not limited to:

— Market Buying Participation: Stepping in to directly assist or lead negotiations on complex individual market buys or those requiring sophisticated financial structuring.

— Billing and Reconciliation: Participating in the processes for market billing reconciliation to ensure absolute accuracy, adherence to contracts, and timely resolution of discrepancies.

– Process Documentation and Training: Translate deep process knowledge into actionable training materials and standard operating procedures, ensuring team members are consistently executing to the highest standards.

– Quality Assurance and Troubleshooting: Act as the final quality control point for complex deliverables and actively participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving operational bottlenecks or technical integration issues that impact the team’s ability to execute flawlessly.

Operational Excellence

– Oversee all broadcast negotiations, ensuring the agency secures the most favorable rates, value, and programming for our clients.

– Establish and enforce best practices, processes, and standards for broadcast buying to maximize efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness.

– Collaborate cross-functionally with planning, analytics, and digital teams to ensure seamless, integrated media strategies.

Budget Management And Financial Accountability

– Manage and forecast multi-million-dollar broadcast media budgets, ensuring all campaigns are executed on time and on budget.

– Drive a culture of financial responsibility and accountability within the team.
