TITLE: Crisis Teacher Assistant
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 24 semester hours plus approved Work Keys Assessments or associate’s degree in any discipline. Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children. Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.

1. College transcript showing a degree was earned
2. College transcript showing at least 48 or more college level courses completed (CCS HR does not count any remedial/pre-requisite courses) uploaded into the application.
3. College transcript showing at least 24 or more college level courses completed (CCS HR does not count any remedial/pre-requisite courses) plus Work Keys Assessments with passing scores in these 3 areas. This includes: Workplace Documents (Reading)- Score of 4 or better, Business Writing - Score of 3 or better, and Applied Mathematics- Score of 4 or better.

REPORTS TO: Executive Director Exceptional Children, Director and Behavior Support Specialist
JOB GOAL: To support the student with significant behaviors within the classroom and in collaboration with the teacher in the teaching-the learning process for students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Gives student instruction as prescribed by the teacher; provides individualized instruction.
- Develops relationships with students, parents, and the school to address behavior.
- Demonstrates various instructional activities to address the behavior.
- Implements the Behavior Intervention Plans to support student learning in the classroom.
- Reports student progress to the teacher.
- Display strong interpersonal skills, communication skills, and problem-solving skills while working independently.
- Promotes student self-esteem; teaches citizenship, social skills, and respect for others.
- Reconciles minor student conflicts.
- Participates in the development of discipline and implements strategies for at-risk young to be successful in the classroom.
- Disciplines misbehavior through approved methods.
- Knowledge of Mental Health Services and diagnoses.
- Reports discipline problems to teacher or principal.
- Reports significant change or lack of change in student behavior.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (word processing, spreadsheet, and database) for effective documentation of data.
- Serves as a team player and role model for other employees in the organization; demonstrates a commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports and exhibits organizational core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer-driven, and valuing fairness.
- Performs other duties and accepts responsibilities as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
- Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required.
Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
