Position: Fire Protection Engineer- Mechanical / Electrical / Chemical
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Duration: Long term contract
Work schedule: 8 A.M. to 4 P.M. or 9 A.M, to 5 P.M.
JOB SUMMARY
Full-time Mechanical/Electrical/Chemcial Engineer in the Bureau of Fire Prevention. Reporting directly to Administrative Engineer.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review plans for emerging technologies, fire alarm and suppression systems, hazards material storage, and/or operational fire code plans and variances as indicated in the NYC Fire Code such emergency action/fire safety/rooftop access plans.
- Engage in studies or investigations related to proposed systems to determine design feasibility.
- Research NYC Mechanical/Electrical/Fuel Gas Codes, NYC Construction Codes, NYC Fire, 3RCNY, NEMA, NFPA, CFR, IEEE, UL and FM standards.
- Confer with engineers, architects, and others in matters relating to the assigned projects.
- Conduct site visits and attend technical meetings and seminars.
QUALIFICATION & PREFERRED SKILLS
- Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in Fire Protection/ Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical Engineering and/or NYS Professional Engineering License in Fire Protection/ Mechanical/Electrical/Chemical Engineering.
- Strong knowledge of suppression and fire alarm systems are a plus.
- Strong knowledge of the Fire Code and Rules, Building, Mechanical and Electrical codes, NFPA standards and other related industry rules and regulations.
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
Minimum Qualifications (Assistant Mechanical Engineer)
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in mechanical engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in mechanical engineering work; or 2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master's degree from an accredited college in mechanical engineering.
Minimum Qualifications(Assistant Electrical Engineer)
A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work; or 2. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college and a master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university. A master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university can only be used to substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience in electrical engineering. A degree in any other engineering area, or in any engineering technology area, is not acceptable.
