We are looking for a motivated, organized, and hands-on Senior R&D Analytical Scientist to join our team. Familiarity with organic chemistry, protein chemistry, and analytical methods for the characterization of proteins in both the native and chemically modified states is a must.

How you will add value to 20BLOC.

You will lead part of our assay development program of a novel hemoglobin-based oxygen carrying (HBOC) product as well as other protein related products. It involves hands-on R&D work in the laboratory, directing and carrying out experiments as well as coming up with technical improvements and novel product concepts.

Responsibilities:

• Develop biochemical assays from the ground up.
• Set up new analytical equipment with a focus on protein biophysical characterization.
• Execute R&D experiments independently.
• Facilitate disciplinary work among R&D, Production and Analytical teams.
• Brainstorming and thinking through complex issues; with the ability to comfortably deal with ambiguity.

Education, Experience and Knowledge Requirements:

• PhD in biochemistry or a related field with 4 years industry experience, or BS or MS in biological or life sciences related field with 8 years industry experience.
• Knowledge in the production of purified enzymes or proteins at lab scale and beyond.
• Experience with microbial recombinant protein expression platforms, fermentation, and strain development.
• Experience with protein-protein interaction measurements, enzyme activity, MichaelisMenten kinetics, and binding kinetics.
• Hands-on experience with protein analytical methods such as HPLC (SEC, AEX/CEX, HIC, RP, etc.), ELISAs, electrophoretic methods (SDS-PAGE, icIEF), LC/MS analyses, PCR, western blot, and MS-based methods.
• Working with cell lysates and other complex protein mixtures is a plus.
• Self-driven and comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced and team environment

• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a cross functional collaborative work environment.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.

This is a full-time, on-site position located in Thousand Oaks, CA, and requires working on-site Monday through Friday. All applicants much be authorized to work in the United States. We are not sponsoring employment visas.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $110,000.00 to $140,000.00 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including, without limitation, individual education, experience, tenure, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data, including potential adjustments for geographic location.
