What are the responsibilities and job description for the Legal Assistant/Paralegal position at 207 Law?
A small, busy Biddeford law office focused on criminal defense, trial work, small business advising, and project-based legal matters is seeking a Legal Assistant / Paralegal to work closely with the attorney as a true "right hand" — managing the calendar, coordinating client communication, and working collaboratively on active cases.
Prior experience in the legal field is a plus but not required; strong organizational instincts, discretion, and follow-through matter more than a specific résumé line.
Hours & Pay
10–25 hours/week, flexible scheduling. Pay commensurate with experience and skill set. Ideally at least a few hours per day, with the ability to work more hours to prepare for trials or complete projects.
What You'll Do
- Manage and maintain the attorney's calendar, deadlines, and scheduling
- Serve as a point of contact for current and prospective clients
- Handle sensitive and confidential case information with discretion and sound judgment
- Collaborate directly with the attorney on case strategy logistics, trial preparation, and organization of complex files
- Support small business advising and project-based legal work as needed
- Draft and organize correspondence, filings, and case materials
What We're Looking For
- Excellent organizational skills are valued, as is the ability to manage competing priorities
- Strong interpersonal skills — comfortable building rapport with clients who may be difficult to reach, or are under stress
- Trustworthy, discreet, and comfortable with highly confidential information
- Self-directed, motivated, and comfortable working collaboratively in a small-office environment
- Interest in the legal system, criminal justice, or a future career in law is a plus
- Experience in client relations, case management, or similar people-centered roles is valued — prior experience may translate directly and is welcomed here
- Legal or paralegal experience is helpful but not required; we're glad to train the right person
Why This Role
You'll work in close partnership with the attorney across a genuinely interesting mix of legal matters — not sitting in a back office processing forms in isolation. It's a good fit for someone who wants true exposure in the legal field. This is a role that will likely grow over time.
