The University of Miami UHealth Department of Lennar - Perioperative Services has an exciting opportunity for a full time Anesthesia Technician in Coral Gables. The incumbent assists anesthesiologist by setting up equipment and preparing medications. Additionally, the incumbent orders, stocks, tests, and maintains anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. The Anesthesia Technician also washes and sterilizes reusable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Cleans, organizes, and maintains anesthesia workroom, supplies, and equipment. Prepares and maintains patient monitoring devices and anesthesia delivery systems pre, intra, and post anesthesia. Takes into consideration age-specific issues to meet the needs of the various patient groups. Maintains quality improvement, safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Documents and maintains preventative maintenance and quality records. Assists with transport of patients and laboratory specimens. Participates in multidisciplinary rounds and meetings, and in-services. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Department Specific Functions Assists anesthesiologists with setting up of anesthesia machines, intubation equipment, etc. Demonstrates competency in the inventory stocking and troubleshooting of all anesthesia equipment Has knowledge of age specific factors as it relates to anesthesia equipment set up Demonstrates knowledge and functional application of basic OR equipment Implements appropriate preventative measure for patients identified with safety risks (i.e. falls, latex allergy, malignant hyperthermia). Maintains, cleans and sterilizers rigid and flexible endoscopes, equipment and instruments. Assists with technical procedures such as: nerve blocks, spinals, emergency intubation Use available RN resources when questions arise. Takes action in emergency/rapidly changing situations and takes basic life sustaining or other appropriate steps to temporarily manage the situation. Alerts appropriate RN team members as emergencies arise. Upon request, is able to gather equipment that will be needed to control emergency patient care situations. Understands and uses equipment properly, after instruction, considering the maintenance, safety and availability. Maintains area stocked with the necessary supplies Precepts new hire Anesthesia Tech Answers telephone promptly and courteously using proper telephone etiquette and routes calls and messages appropriately Maintains preventive maintenance log on the anesthesia machines Demonstrates ability to function independently in organizing and prioritizing assigned responsibilities on a daily basis as evidenced by coordination of case load and individual anesthesiologist’s request. Assist anesthesiologists as necessary in all areas needed, such as Surgery, GI Procedure, CT and Interventional. Initiates and or assists with cleaning of anesthesia machines, carts, cables and blood pressure cuffs to facilitate and ensure efficient operating room turnover and productivity. Perceives potential problem situations, intervenes, removes and reports defective equipment to management, Bio-Medical and Equipment Company. Monitors preventive maintenance schedule for anesthesia machines and equipment to ensure that biannual checks are performed by contracting appropriate personnel. Monitors and maintains appropriate inventory/par level of all anesthesia related supplies and equipment. Cares for and cleans all anesthesia machines and related equipment/supplies according to established Infection Control policy and procedures. Maintains anesthesia work room clean, organized, tidy and clutter free. Demonstrates ability to anticipate special needs of anesthesiologists and or surgical procedures to prevent delays by responding in an appropriate and timely manner.
