Overview
We are seeking a Controls Engineer / Automation Engineer to design and implement control systems for custom automation machinery and industrial automation equipment.
This role focuses on designing and integrating new automation systems, not maintaining existing production equipment.
Engineers in this role work on projects that combine PLC controls, robotics, machine vision, and industrial networking. Many of our systems involve vision-guided automation and automated inspection, where PLC logic coordinates robotics, sensing, and vision systems to make real-time quality decisions in manufacturing environments.
You will work closely with robotics engineers, machine vision engineers, and mechanical engineers to develop and deploy OEM automation equipment from concept through commissioning.
Engineers in this role are responsible for designing and implementing control system architecture for automation projects, including machine sequencing, subsystem integration, and startup support.

What You'll Do
- Develop PLC programs and machine sequencing logic for custom automation machinery (primarily Allen-Bradley)
- Develop HMI applications using FactoryTalk View and Ignition
- Design electrical systems including panel layouts and electrical schematics
- Integrate automation components including:
- Fanuc and Yaskawa robots
- Machine vision systems
- VFDs and motion devices
- Safety systems and industrial networking
- Support machine build, debug, and system integration
- Participate in system startup and commissioning at customer facilities
- Collaborate with mechanical, robotics, and vision engineering teams
Preferred Background
- Experience programming Allen-Bradley PLCs
- Experience integrating Fanuc or Yaskawa robots
- Experience with Cognex or Keyence machine vision systems
- Experience developing industrial HMI applications
- Ability to read and create electrical schematics
- Experience commissioning automation systems
