Job Summary
The Direct Care Staff is responsible for providing compassionate, person-centered support to individuals living in a group home setting. This role focuses on assisting residents with daily living activities, ensuring their safety and well-being, and promoting independence, dignity, and community inclusion. The DCS plays a key role in creating a supportive and structured home environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesResident Care & Support
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and personal hygiene.
- Support residents with medication administration according to agency policies.
- Encourage independence through skill-building activities such as cooking, cleaning, and self-care tasks.
- Provide emotional support, positive reinforcement, and crisis intervention when needed.
Household Management
- Prepare meals according to dietary needs and preferences.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized home environment.
- Assist with household chores such as laundry, cleaning, and grocery shopping.
- Help manage resident schedules, appointments, and community outings.
Documentation & Communication
- Complete accurate and timely documentation, including daily notes, Nutrition Monitoring form, incident reports, and medication logs.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, medical professionals, and resident families.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and care plan updates.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all agency policies, state regulations, and licensing requirements.
- Implement behavior support plans and crisis prevention strategies appropriately.
- Ensure resident safety through proper supervision and risk management practices.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold residents’ rights at all times.
QualificationsRequired
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass background checks and drug screening.
- Ability to lift 25–50 lbs and assist with physical support as needed.
- Strong communication, patience, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred
- Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs.
- CPR, First Aid, and/or CPI certification.
- Training in trauma-informed care or person-centered planning.
- Certificate of Medication Administration
- Training in Behavior Management/ Interventions
Schedule
- Shifts may include mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays depending on program needs.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly rate: $18-$22.
