Jo's American Bistro is a neighborhood favorite known for approachable American comfort food, a lively bar, and genuinely warm hospitality. We're hiring a Server and a Bartender to join our front-of-house team and help deliver the kind of service that keeps guests coming back.
The Roles
Server: You'll be the main point of contact for guests throughout their visit — greeting them, guiding them through the menu, relaying orders to the kitchen, and keeping tables running smoothly, even during a busy rush.
Bartender: You'll run the bar with speed, accuracy, and personality — mixing drinks to spec, keeping the bar stocked and clean, and making every guest at the bar feel welcome.
Responsibilities
- Greet and seat guests, present menus, and answer questions about food and drink offerings
- Take accurate food and drink orders and enter them correctly into the POS system
- Serve food and beverages promptly, or, for the bartender role, prepare and serve mixed drinks, draft and bottled beer, and wine according to recipe and portion standards
- Check IDs and serve alcohol responsibly, in compliance with state and local laws
- Keep your station clean, stocked, and organized throughout each shift
- Process payments and handle cash and card transactions accurately
- Work as part of a team with kitchen and other front-of-house staff to ensure timely, accurate service
- Handle guest concerns promptly and professionally, looping in a manager when needed
Qualifications
- Previous experience as a server or bartender in a full-service restaurant preferred
- Bartender applicants should have solid knowledge of classic cocktails, beer, and wine, with the ability to learn our specific menu quickly
- Must meet the minimum age requirement to serve alcohol in Rhode Island
- A valid alcohol service certification, e.g., TIPS/ServSafe], or willingness to obtain one before starting
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, upbeat attitude, even during a rush
- Ability to stand, walk, and carry trays for extended periods, and to lift up to 50 lbs
- Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
