1841 Café, located in the heart of beautiful Downtown Lenoir, is looking for dependable Prep Cooks to help keep our kitchen prepared, organized, and ready for service. Both part-time and full-time positions are available.
Our prep team is an important part of what keeps the restaurant running smoothly. We need someone who can follow recipes, work independently, stay organized, and make sure our cooks have what they need when service begins.
Experience is helpful, but dependability, a good attitude, attention to detail, willingness to learn, and being a team player are just as important to us.
Responsibilities
- Prepare ingredients according to recipes and daily prep lists
- Wash, cut, chop, slice, portion, and properly store ingredients
- Prepare sauces, dressings, vegetables, meats, sides, and other menu components
- Accurately follow recipes and portion standards
- Label, date, rotate, and properly store prepared foods
- Monitor inventory and communicate when ingredients or supplies are running low
- Maintain a clean and organized prep area
- Follow food safety, sanitation, and proper food-handling procedures
- Assist with receiving and putting away deliveries
- Help prepare food for private events, catering, and special functions
- Assist with cooking and event service when needed
- Assist the line and other kitchen team members when needed
- Complete cleaning and other kitchen duties as assigned

- Previous restaurant or food-preparation experience preferred
- Basic knife and food-preparation skills
- Ability to follow recipes and written instructions
- Organized and able to manage multiple prep tasks
- Dependable and punctual

- Good understanding of cleanliness and food safety
- Willingness to learn and accept direction
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic
- Someone who sees what needs to be done and is willing to help the team get it done
Pay & Opportunity for Growth
Starting pay is based on experience. Employees who demonstrate strong performance and reliability and who quickly learn our recipes, procedures, and kitchen operations may have the opportunity for increased pay as they grow in the position and take on additional responsibilities.
Schedule
Both part-time and full-time positions are available.
1841 Café is closed for regular restaurant service on Sundays and Mondays. However, private events and special functions are sometimes scheduled on those days. Occasional Sunday or Monday availability may be required for event preparation, cooking, and service.
