We are seeking a Sr Mechanical Engineer for a 6-month contract to hire opportunity that is in Willowbrook IL
The position is hybrid after 30 days, standard is Tuesday-Thursday in office, Monday/Friday remote.
Requirements
- We are looking for someone with strong design experience, a portfolio of past work (images, project overviews, or general descriptions), and recent SolidWorks proficiency, verified by a CAD assessment.
- Additional requirements include experience with injection molding, sheet metal, and integrated electronics (preferably for chargers or handheld devices with PCB boards).
- Leadership or mentorship experience is a plus but not mandatory; the focus is on finding a proactive "doer." Requirements
- Candidates must provide a design portfolio (not under NDA) and pass a SolidWorks CAD assessment.
Description for Sr. Mechanical Engineer:
Seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to work throughout the product development lifecycle with a large focus on new product desk. This includes design, development, and production release of products and custom solutions for the transportation industry. This position involves a significant amount of new platform and design work.
Responsibilities for Sr. Mechanical Engineer:
- Design of mechanical components, assemblies, and packaging
- Generate concepts for products
- 3D modeling and design for manufacturing (DFM), specifically injection molding parts
- Modify existing 3D models
- Create mechanical engineering design specifications
- Perform both new product development and product maintenance activities
- Create 2D drawings, check and release
- Validate samples and products
- Follow internal operating procedures and standards
- Adhere to schedules for mechanical design projects
- Create and maintain proper mechanical component validation & documentation
- Create and issue Product Change Notifications
- Write inspection reports
- Participate in design teams and owning product outcomes
- Working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the work product exceeds expectations
Requirements for Sr. Mechanical Engineer:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering
- 7 years’ experience in electromechanical product design and development
- Minimum 3 experience in complex 3D mechanical design of plastic injection-molded parts, including surface modeling expertise
- Minimum 5 years proficiency in using SolidWorks design software
- Experience/knowledge of sheet metal fabrication techniques, cable assembly design and production processes
- Experience with PCB assembly and packaging technologies is desirable
- Excellent communication skills (reading & writing)
- Excellent listening skills and the ability to ask good questions and share ideas with the team
- Attention to detail, highly organized, and fluent user of MS Office software
- Ability to work in a fast-paced professional environment
- Successful demonstration of owning and driving a solution to completion
- Experience working with partners and consulting firms
- Experience with UL, CB Scheme, etc., would be a plus
