Director of Tax Strategy
The Director of Tax Strategy will partner with financial advisors and the financial planning team to identify tax-planning opportunities, solve complex tax questions, and translate technical expertise into practical strategies for high-net-worth clients.
This role is focused on proactive tax strategy and planning—not tax preparation or return filing.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Tax Strategy
Identify and analyze tax-planning opportunities for high-net-worth individuals and families.
Develop strategies involving income, investments, Roth conversions, charitable giving, retirement planning, business ownership, equity compensation, and estate planning.
Research complex tax matters and translate findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
Lead tax-strategy discussions with select clients.
Partner With Financial Advisors
Serve as the firm’s primary internal tax-planning resource.
Help advisors identify, evaluate, and implement tax-planning opportunities.
Participate in select advisor and client meetings.
Explain complex tax concepts in a way that clients can easily understand and act upon.
Integrate Tax Into Financial Planning
Partner with financial planning leadership to incorporate tax strategy throughout the firm’s planning process.
Review financial plans and individual client situations to identify tax-planning opportunities.
Develop practical tools, resources, and frameworks that help advisors consistently incorporate tax planning into client recommendations.
Collaborate and Educate
Coordinate tax strategies with clients’ CPAs, attorneys, and other outside professionals.
Educate advisors on tax-law changes, emerging planning strategies, and potential client opportunities.
Strengthen tax knowledge and confidence across the organization.
What Success Looks Like
Tax strategy becomes a natural and consistent part of the firm’s financial-planning process. Advisors identify more opportunities, clients receive better-coordinated guidance, and valuable strategies move from recommendations to implementation.
Qualifications
CPA strongly preferred; EA, JD/LLM in Taxation, or comparable advanced tax expertise will also be considered.
Significant individual tax-planning experience, particularly with high-net-worth clients.
Strong technical, analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to make complex tax concepts understandable and actionable.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
Collaborative, intellectually curious, and comfortable working with advisors, clients, CPAs, attorneys, and other professionals.
