VICTIM ADVOCATE
The Victim Advocate supports the Fourteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office by managing cases and working closely with prosecutors and investigators.
Duties
• Monitor court cases and provide assistance to victims
• Identify victim needs and coordinate appropriate services
• Work collaboratively with prosecutors, investigators, and staff
• Serve as a liaison with law enforcement, government agencies, and social service organizations
• Inform victims of their rights
• Maintain accurate victim records and submit required reports
• Assist victims in completing crime compensation forms
• Attend court proceedings
• Coordinate with other victim advocacy programs
• Perform related duties, including some front‑office administrative tasks
Minimum Qualifications
• Associate degree and/or two years of experience working with crime victims, or equivalent education and experience
Special Requirements
• Valid South Carolina driver’s license
• Occasional on‑call availability
• Willingness to travel -- if needed -- to Allendale, Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, and Jasper counties, although this position is based at our headquarters in Okatie, SC.
• Must obtain VSP (OVSEC) Certification within one year of hire
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Understanding of legal terminology, court procedures, and modern office practices
• Familiarity with the South Carolina Victims Bill of Rights
• Ability to interview victims, gather information, communicate effectively, follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and work well with the public and colleagues
Tools and Equipment
• Computer with spreadsheet and database software, virtual case management system, phone, copier, etc.
Physical Demands
• Frequent sitting, walking, talking, and reaching
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Requires close vision and ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
• Primarily office and courtroom settings
