About the Role
The Medical Director provides psychiatric care and clinical leadership while supporting high-quality behavioral health services across the organization. This role partners closely with clinical and executive leadership to guide psychiatric service delivery, provide consultation to multidisciplinary teams, and contribute to administrative and policy decisions that support patient care.
The Medical Director plays a key role in developing and coordinating both in-person and telehealth psychiatric services for clients with private and public insurance coverage. Our client population includes children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a wide range of behavioral health needs, from mild to complex conditions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct psychiatric evaluations, medication reviews, and required clinical documentation
- Prescribe, monitor, and manage medications as clinically appropriate
- Order and review laboratory testing when needed
- Provide psychiatric services through both in-person and telehealth platforms based on client needs and agency contracts
- Offer clinical consultation and guidance to multidisciplinary treatment teams
- Define and support psychiatric standards and responsibilities related to client care
- Coordinate psychiatric service delivery across the agency
- Collaborate with leadership to develop and enhance psychiatric care programs and service models
- Assist in developing and implementing procedures, protocols, and best practices for psychiatric services
- Evaluate the quality, effectiveness, and appropriateness of psychiatric and medical care provided to clients
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and support continuous service enhancement
- Serve on the Behavior Treatment Committee to review and approve behavior plans as needed
- Conduct and participate in meetings that support clinical quality and compliance, including psychiatric staff meetings, compliance reviews, root cause analyses, and related committees
- Provide in-service education and clinical training for staff on behavioral health and psychiatric topics
- Support recruitment, selection, supervision, and professional development of psychiatric staff, including nurse practitioners and psychiatric residents
- Coordinate peer review activities and participate in performance evaluations of psychiatric providers
- Ensure adherence to regulatory, ethical, and professional standards
- Participate in compliance audits and agency quality assurance activities
- Promote safe, effective, and person-centered psychiatric care throughout the organization
Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)
- Current license to practice medicine in the State of Michigan
- Board certification in Child Psychiatry
- Ability to prescribe and manage psychiatric medications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with both child and adult populations
- Knowledge of or experience working within the Detroit/Wayne County Community Mental Health system

- Experience supporting individuals with substance use disorders and dual diagnoses
- Proficiency with electronic medical records, telehealth platforms, and related technology
- Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills

Salary : $101,000 - $150,000
