Newport News, Virginia Overview A Senior Occupational Therapist (OT) carries out an individualized program for patients with acute and chronic health conditions to maximize their quality of life and achieve their functional goals. The Senior OT will maintain a positive working relationship with other health professionals and ancillary staff. A Senior OT acts as a resource and mentor within the therapy department, serves as the backup to the Therapy Director and completes at least one leadership project each year. What you will do Performs evaluations, determines diagnoses, and develops a plan of care. Performs procedures as allowed by referral to aid in restoring function, improving mobility, relieving pain, and preventing or limiting permanent physical disabilities. Participates in education, orientation, training and support of all team members, volunteers and students. Coordinates in-services and educational opportunities that promote clinical growth of therapy staff. Evaluates and assesses patients timely based on principles outlined by practice guidelines, evidence based guidelines and regulatory standards (state & organizational policies, requirements of accrediting bodies, etc.). Assesses and documents progress for evaluation, billing and reporting purposes. Serves as a clinical resource to staff. Assists in the coordination of operations in the department and serves as backup to Therapy Director. Follows and carries out the treatment plan. Advises on adaptive equipment to help patients with daily activities. Modifies to maximize therapeutic benefit and meet discharge criteria and returns to optimal level of care. Utilizes testing results and develops updated plan of care based on principles outlined in appropriate evidence based guidelines. Builds trusting collaborative relationships with a multi-disciplinary team to support patient care needs. Actively participates in multi-disciplinary team meetings, as assigned. Qualifications Education Bachelors Degree, Occupational Therapy (Required) or Masters Degree, Occupational Therapy (Required) or Doctoral Degree, Occupational Therapy (Required) Experience 2 years Recent relevant experience (Required) Licenses and Certifications License Occupational Therapy (OT) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) (Required) and License Occupational Therapy (OTR) - National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy Inc (NBCOT) (Required) and CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) within 30 Days(Required) To learn more about being a team member with Riverside Health System visit us at https://www.riversideonline.com/careers.
