Job Description I. JOB SUMMARY The Patient Accounts Supervisor is responsible for timely and accurate billing of hospital claims to patients and third party payers. Review and analysis of information contained on claims for accurate submission to third party payers to remit payment. Responsible for all phases of billing and attaching appropriate documentation for payment. Analyzes payments and adjustments for accuracy. Displays flexibility regarding work assignments. II. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Assists in the monitoring and supervision of the overall functions of patient accounts. Ensures accurate and timely insurance filing of accounts including Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid payers. Participates in the development of new processes and procedures to improve operations and efficiency. Assists in the establishment and implementation of controls to ensure appropriate and compliant claim submission. Maintains required records, reports, files and logs. Assists in the maintenance of appropriate internal controls over the billing and follow up functions. Trends billing activity and errors. Assists in the supervision of the billing and follow up functions. Provides relief for Patient Accounts Representatives as needed. Investigate, problem solve and respond to escalated staff questions and concerns in a timely manner. Proficient typing and computer skills. Manages all aspects of the Patient Accounts staff and department by orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions; planning and reviewing; enforcing policies and procedures ensuring compliance with applicable laws Performs other duties as needed or assigned. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position III. JOB QUALIFICATIONS Required: High School diploma or equivalent Three years’ experience of third party billing and follow up, in a healthcare setting.
