What are the responsibilities and job description for the SQL Developer (Need Local to Bentonville) position at 1 point system?
Project Overview:
- The team supports a long-standing eDiscovery/legal application used to provide data to areas such as global investigations and claims so they can research and manage litigation-related matters.
- The application has been in place for roughly 15 years, and some of the underlying hardware/infrastructure is reaching end of support or warranty. The team has already started modernizing the environment.
- The application pulls together data from several business areas, including merchandising, recruiting, employee/people data, and other business datasets.
- Data volumes can vary significantly, from relatively small datasets to very large datasets involving areas like sales and transactional data.
- The front end is a .NET application and is handled by an internal associate team.
- The biggest need is on the back end. Data is primarily stored and processed in SQL Server, with significant use of stored procedures.
- A sister team currently supports that environment but has limited bandwidth, which is driving the need for additional SQL development capacity.
Requirements
Core Requirements
- Strong hands-on SQL Server development experience.
- Strong T-SQL skills.
- Experience creating, modifying, and maintaining stored procedures.
- Comfortable working with stored procedures of medium to higher complexity, including combining multiple datasets and applying business logic.
- Strong experience using SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Ability to troubleshoot and improve poorly performing SQL queries.
- Experience working with both smaller datasets and large transactional datasets.
- Comfortable joining an existing application environment and partnering with multiple development/support teams.
- Able to work onsite in Bentonville during standard business hours.

- Google BigQuery experience. Helpful, but SQL Server is clearly the stronger priority.

- Experience supporting or modernizing legacy applications and database environments.
- Experience with merchandising/catalog, employee/people, recruiting, sales, or other complex enterprise datasets.
- Previous Walmart or Sam's Club experience would be especially valuable because of familiarity with their data.
- Exposure to eDiscovery, legal, investigations, or claims-related data would also be relevant.
