The Mechanic II is responsible for performing standard mechanical work on vehicles, farm equipment, wind machines, & irrigation systems in the shop and in the field. This position will complete minor and major overhauls and rebuilding of gasoline, diesel, and propane engines on cars, trucks, tractors, and wind machines. Diagnosing and repairing hydraulic problems and complex electrical problems will be required.
- Perform standard and advanced mechanical maintenance functions on all farm equipment, vehicles, wind machines, and irrigation systems.
- Evaluate safety of all equipment; identify (red tag) and remove from service those that are in need of inspection and or repair.
- Complete minor and major overhauls and rebuilding of gasoline, diesel, and propane engines on cars, trucks, tractors, and wind machines, hydraulic motors, pumps, control valves and systems using precice measuring tools and test equipment.
- Responsible for taking equipment and vehicles out of service and red tagging them for safety inspections and problems. Road test all equipment after repairs. Sign off all equipment as work being complete, final inspection. Inspect work and progress of entry level mechanics.
- Utilize advanced welding skills for repair and fabrication.
- Working knowledge of Stick,MIG,TIG. Proficient with Oxy/Acetylene torch.
- Ability to perform all hydraulic system repairs.
- Remove and replace batteries, starters, alternators, and all wiring repairs.
- Select materials, parts and tools required for maintenance and repairs.
- Fabricate metal support equipment for auto and farming vehicles.
- Interpret written instructions, drawings, and blueprints.
- Operate welders, presses , lathes, drill press, milling machines & cranes.
- Driving company vehicles required.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED certificate required.
- Associates degree or equivalent from 2-year college or technical school preferred
- Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in vehicle mechanics including gasoline, propane and diesel engine repair and rebuilding. Strong communication skills are required interact with customers, vendors and equipment factory representatives.
- Auto air conditioning repair.
- Propane gas fitters license
- Forklift certification (Harry & David will certify)
- Automotive diagnostic computer skills
- Advanced welding skills (overhead, vertical, bracing, silver solder, stick and wire feed) are essential.
- Must have adequate vision, hearing and motor coordination to safely work at heights, in confined spaces and around mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Physical requirements include walking, bending, crawling, reaching, stooping, twisting and lifting over 30 lbs., and the ability to withstand a production environment with exposure to dust, fumes and varying high/low temperatures.
- Must have excellent mechanical aptitude and abilities with good analytical and methodical problem solving, trouble shooting and decision-making skills.
- Must have experience with disassembly/assembly of precise, complex mechanisms and machines and related equipment and tools.
- Ability to lift up to 50 -100 lbs. occasionally and up to 25 lbs. frequently.
- Ability to stand on concrete surface up to 70 % of shift.
- Must be able to work weekends and overtime as required.
- Valid Oregon’s Driver’s license. (3-year clean driving record)
- Safety Sensitive position, subject to initial and follow-up drug testing.
