The University Of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is located in La Plata, Maryland. The hospital has approximately 110 beds, and approximately 260,000 sq. ft. of space. There are five Operating Rooms, approximately 41 Exam/Treatments rooms in the Emergency Department, a Wound Care Center, and Infusion Center located within the hospital campus. CRMC also operates approximately Medical Practices, to include an Endoscopy Center, and Outpatient Rehabilitation Center that are located off-site all within an approximate five-mile radius of the main hospital Campus.
Job Description
Monday - Friday - with flexibility as needed for managing a 24/7 dept
The Security Manager would be responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Assist in the planning, implementation and coordinating of safety and security programs to reduce risk to patients, staff, and visitors. Will serve as a lead on Workplace Violence initiatives.
This position leads and manages the day-to-day operations and workflows of the Security Department. This role develops, reviews, and updates policies and procedures. This position is a key stakeholder in the planning and development of new security strategies to serve the organizational needs for both the main hospital campus, and all off-site buildings. Acts as a liaison with other hospital Leaders and local law enforcement to facilitate and foster collaborative relationships. The Security Manager supports the organizations mission, vision, and values through leading by example as well as coaching and mentoring staff. Sets example by being visible, engaged and available. Flexing time to be available for staff on all shifts. It is an expectation of this role to focus on continuous team building and consistent, accurate communications related to all department and hospital activities, and initiatives with staff.
This role will also serve as an active member on the hospital Environment of Care Committee. Assists the Director of Facilities in the preparation and monitoring of the security budget as requested. Participates in activities related to the hospital Emergency Preparedness Plans as directed by the Director of Facilities.
Conducts Security Hazard Risk Assessments (HVA’s) at the hospital and at each of the CRMC off-site buildings at least annually.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in a related field with three years supervisory experience (5 years managerial experience may be substituted for an Associate’s Degree).
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
- Three years of Security experience required; experience in a hospital setting preferred.
- Basic International Association for Hospital Safety & Security (IAHSS) Certification and IAHSS Supervisor Certification preferred.
- Certification Nonviolence Crisis Intervention, Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) required within the first 30 days of employment.
- CPI Instructor / Trainer Certification required within one (1) year of employment
SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of federal, state and local laws
- Knowledge of federal and state Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) laws and regulations
- Ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of patients and confidentiality of health system and departmental documents required
- Knowledge of The Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory agencies related to healthcare required
CONDITIONS: Works in all areas of hospital, with exposure to combative patients, fluctuating temperatures, and loud noise. Requires walking and standing approximately 70% of the time, requires sitting approximately 30% of the time. Requires handling combative patients that may weigh in excess of 100 lbs.; requires pushing, pulling and lifting equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 lbs. approximately 30% of the time. Requires visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment. Potential for exposure to disagreeable elements, such as odors, fumes, hot temperatures and occasional stressful situations. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or blood and body substances and hazardous materials requiring the observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices.
