ZAH Group is Hiring a Packaging Engineer Near Lincolnshire, IL

​The Packaging Engineer is responsible for implementing corporate packaging projects that have been identified by the management team, including projects related to cost savings, operational improvements, procedural improvements, taking the project lead on seasonal packaging promotional projects and conflict resolution/negotiations when packaging issues need addressing with suppliers. Corporate packaging projects are unique to the Company and require in-depth understanding of materials, operations and our customers. In addition, this position is responsible for performing engineering analysis to define packaging design requirements, review suitability of materials, and feasibility of proposed processes.Responsibilities: 1. Prepare and present corporate packaging projects to the leadership team, ensuring all presented data is accurate2. Manage and implement all corporate packaging projects to completion. Provide post project audit and present all variances from the original project goals.3. Prepare packaging documentation including, but not limited to, detailed drawings, specifications, handling and shipping instructions, and inspection criteria as directed.4. Prepare proposed routings, bills of material, and cost estimates for completing proposed projects.5. Perform benchmark evaluation of competitive or proposed new product packaging as well as ongoing packaging improvements utilizing proposed processes or material changes.6. Participate in resolving engineering design, packaging quality, materials and testing issues, includingtroubleshooting directly with the packaging team.7. Design, prototype and test packaging components, sub‐systems, and apply principles and techniques ofmechanical and package engineering as directed.8. Identify and implement cost saving initiatives related to packaging materials, labor, efficiency, transportation, and storage.9. Write technical reports to document engineering analysis and findings.10. Make work flow design recommendations to ensure efficient packaging systems and processes.11. Work with vendors as well as internal teams to set‐up promotional and point of purchase displays and ensure packaging fits with the company's marketing and branding.12. Seek out and demand accurate inputs and produce only quality work product for downstream customers.13. Work with local corrugated and packaging suppliers to develop and maintain specifications based on organization production capabilities.14. Interface regularly with engineering, product management, operations, and procurement to optimize packaging processes and meet organizational goals.15. Work to minimize any design detail that may cause extra steps and add cost in the manufacturing process.16. Observe all safety guidelines and report safety concerns to management.17. Perform other duties as required within the nature and level of work.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Packaging Engineering and three (3) years of related experience are required. A solid knowledge of engineering fundamentals and principles with good general understanding of various material properties is required. Experience with palletization optimization software (ex: TOPS, CAPE) and analysis and CAD (SolidWorks) is a plus. Must be willing and able to travel up to three (3) days per month.Must have strong technical, analytical, planning and organizational skills. Must be capable of facilitating projects and solutions. Demonstrate oral and written communication within a team environment. Ability to prioritize projects and departmental goals to meet established deadlines. Ability to adapt to changing priorities under tight time constraints. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).Physical Requirements:Occasionally required to stand, walk or sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
