Job Summary:

The Senior Director, Human Resources is responsible for developing and executing YBP’s human resources strategy, specifically in the areas of employee well-being, continuous workforce improvement and planning, talent acquisition, change management, performance management, succession planning, training and development, and policy development and compliance. The Senior Director, Human Resources will serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on a variety of issues, including leadership development and talent management. The Senior Director, Human Resources provides strategic leadership by formulating and articulating HR needs and plans to staff and to the Board of Directors.

The Senior Director, Human Resources will have the ability to bring credibility to the human resource function through their professional qualifications and leadership. This individual will continue to build respectful and productive collaboration at the most senior levels of a rapidly growing, complex organization. This individual will be a strategic business partner, establishing rapport at all levels within the school. will cultivate relationships to ensure that HR delivers value, service excellence and operational efficiency. As a leader that embodies an ‘executive presence’, this individual must be highly articulate and a deft communicator. This individual will foster respect, trust, and collaboration among team members and will possess the ability to manage through change with flexibility and poise.

The Senior Director, Human Resources will report to the Chief Financial and Operating Officer, supervise all staff in the Human Resources department.

Requirements

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide leadership, expertise in defining and executing the full scope of Human Resource functions including organizational effectiveness and change, talent management, organizational learning, development, and performance management
  • Provide clear guidance to management regarding policies, practices, laws and regulations to ensure all human resource policies and programs are in compliance with local and governmental regulatory requirements and support the achievement of both short/long-term business objectives.
  • Makes recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team for improvement of the organization’s policies, procedures, and practices in workforce management. 
  • Proposes strategies for organizational development and effective talent management.
  • Responsible for overall leadership and guidance to the Human Resources team by overseeing talent management including retention, career development, training and leadership development, compensation and benefits to support the strategic vision.
  •  Serve as the lead on talent acquisition for all staff positions and collaborates with managers on crafting job descriptions. Prioritizes the supervision experience of all staff
  • Develop and implement new recruiting strategies and proactive recruitment of passive candidates.
  • Manage all HR administration, including overseeing the organization’s benefits programs, annual Open Enrollment, and addresses employee benefits questions with our Benefits Broker. Monitor. Measure effectiveness of existing and proposed benefits plans to ensure they are cost-effective, competitive, and meet the needs of both employees and the organization; recommend changes which provide value, are within budget consistent with benefit trends, and long-term strategy.
  • Proactively engages employees to improve working relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention. Communicates openly and frequently, keeping staff informed on benefit resources, organizational events and other pertinent information. 
  • Provide performance management guidance to supervisors and support them in carrying out their responsibilities on personnel matters (coaching, mentoring professional development, and disciplinary actions). 
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Where applicable, conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations. 
  • Identify training needs for departments and assists Directors with finding appropriate training resources. Monitors and evaluates success of training programs. Follow up to ensure training objectives are met.
  • Oversee and maintain the human resource information system and implements other technology and procedural improvements to streamline the HR function.
  • Provide management oversight of the Safety Committee. Support the Safety Comitteee with maintaining and reporting on workplace health and safety compliance and leading the Safety Committee.
  • Partner with the School-wide Leadership team on strategic initiatives, organization development, change management, and complex employee issues in order to strengthen overall organizational capability. Develops strong relationships with supervisors to identify workforce challenges or talent gaps and collaborates to develop solutions to address them.
  • Oversee compensation strategy and market competitive compensation program, including merit planning, variable compensation strategies, trend analysis, and executive compensation. Provides input on department restructures, workforce planning and succession planning. 
  • Provide HR policy interpretation and guidance on multifaceted employment matters.
  • Willingness to learn about and support staff in restorative practices
  • Serve as staff liaison to the Board of Directors’ HR Committee in its governance of key HR issues

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or similar areas; Master’s degree in Human Resources or Educational Leadership preferred
  • Minimum of 5-7 years’ prior experience in Human Resources or Educational Leadership with a record of progressive advancement. 
  • Extensive exposure to benefit administration, employee relations, talent and performance management, recruitment, HRIS, and training and development preferred; At least five years’ experience r supervising three or more employees
  • Professional certification through SHRM preferred
  • Prior experience as an leader with a record of successful engagement and influence with senior leaders and other employees at all levels
  • Deep understanding of current HR trends in compensation, benefits, and performance evaluation frameworks and fluency with primary HR functions preferred
  • Understanding of best practices and experience in building inclusive and engaged workplaces; cultural awareness and sensitivity with lens on racial and gender equity
  • Ability to deal with conflict effectively and to manage difficult employee relations situations confidently and calmly
  • Proven influencer and demonstrated ability to coach and counsel both executive-level management and employees in sensitive situations
  • Experience in revising or developing new HR policies and procedures to meet changing organizational needs and to support the desired organizational culture, in a non-profit organization, charter school, or education environment preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong customer service orientation, and the ability to partner effectively with all levels of the organization, including expectation setting. The ability to influence through listening, writing, and presenting
  • Demonstrate leadership, creativity, enthusiasm and the ability to work effectively with all stakeholders both in and outside of the organization
  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and accuracy, and strong work ethic. Proven track record of excellent follow-through and execution in a demanding, high growth environment
