JOB DESCRIPTION: Housekeeping Manager

REPORTS TO: General Manager/Ownership

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Housekeeping Manager (“HM”) oversees and directs the Hotel’s Housekeeping department, including laundry, public areas, meeting room, and guest room cleaning and upkeep. The HM leads the effort in establishing an environment of positivity, teamwork, and a commitment to excellence. The HM strives to ensure guest and meeting rooms and public areas meet guest expectations of cleanliness and quality.

DUTIES:

• Create and manage daily staff assignments and weekly schedules.
• Monitor and inspect work performed by all Housekeeping staff (Room, Laundry and House Attendants,) to ensure cleanliness standards, as established by ownership, and cleaning, safety, and operating procedures, as established by ownership, are being followed.
• Provide necessary instruction and training to existing and new staff to ensure compliance with policies and procedures, including safety measures related to using equipment and chemicals in performing job responsibilities.
• Perform regular routine guest/meeting room, public area, and equipment checks to identify deficiencies and maintenance needs.
• Work alongside and lead team by example.
• Step into Housekeeper role when demand and need exists. Must be physically able to perform all Housekeeping tasks.
• Track and maintain department related inventories, order approved supplies as needed, and submit purchase requisitions for other items as needed.

RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY:

• Interview prospective Housekeeping, Laundry, and House employment candidates. Provide feedback to management regarding potential candidates.
• Serve as the Manager on Duty (“MOD”) when assigned.
• Promote cleanliness and sanitation in all facets of the Hotel’s operations.
• Participate in weekly management meetings with the Hotel’s Executive Committee.
• Motivate all Housekeeping staff to perform at an optimal level in their respective roles.
• Collaborate with ownership on staff development and disciplinary matters.

OTHER ROUTINE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Daily inspection of public areas and guest and meeting rooms.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of Hotel Housekeeping experience including some supervisory/training experience.
• Ability to speak, read and write fluent English.
• Reading, writing and computer skills to document tasks, order supplies and following instructions and communication with management.
• Mathematical skills including basic math, budgeting and percentages.
• Problem solving, reasoning, motivating, training and organizational skills.
• Must be a self-starter and be able to work independently with little supervision. Must lead housekeeping team by example.
• Key personality traits include being kind, communicate well, be helpful and flexible when curveballs appear.
• Effectively communicate with other people, avoid gossip and build trust.
• Be able to pass a background check. Must be of sound mind and free from substance abuse.
• Potential employee must be able to lift up to 30lbs, have full use of arms and hands, be able to stand for long periods of time, reach, bend and twist repetitively.
