Year Up, Inc is Hiring a Site Director (Senior Director) Near San Francisco, CA

OVERVIEW: The Site Director will report directly to the Regional Director of Program and will lead and support the efficiency and growth of the site in partnership with market-based and national leadership. They will ensure the site achieves student learning and development targets and high-quality program outcomes by translating market needs into curricular plans and programmatic initiatives. The Site Director will serve as the main owner and driver to partner with the community colleges and will also directly or indirectly manage Year Up staff on-site to ensure seamless integration of Year Up’s culture and program model in the college setting, and will play a lead role in developing and maintaining a positive team dynamic. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of how to negotiate with higher education institutions, deftly navigating key departments, understanding organizational relationship dynamics, and working collaboratively with key institutional stakeholders. This position requires an understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges of operating a high-caliber youth and workforce development organization in an existing higher education institution. To be successful in this role, one must thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy leading strategic efforts to constantly and consistently improve the site’s program performance, and have experience in quickly scaling programs. The Site Director will be a resourceful problem solver who is able to think on their feet to resolve issues and effectively plan for program success. This candidate will also have the ability to inspire a high-performing staff by fostering an environment of learning, development, and innovation. In keeping with Year Up’s values, the Site Director will interact with students as a mentor, group facilitator, and advocate, participating in building a positive educational environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Management Build strategy, set direction, and lead the planning, development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all program activities (including academic coursework, and student support and development initiatives) Work with and through the team to achieve key program outcomes including goals for student performance, retention, and satisfaction Provide strategic vision and leadership for the academic program to ensure that academic course work and training tracks are aligned with entry-level career-track jobs driven by market analysis Stay abreast of the nuances of different corporate cultures and market trends in order to develop the necessary training supports to ensure that students make an effective transition from on-site coursework to internship and long-term career success Support, build, and share best practices for positive student outcomes across Year Up sites Community College Relationship Building & Management Set strategy and direction to build and manage the college partner relationship by aligning Year Up’s strategic imperatives with the college partner’s strategic imperatives to ensure a long-lasting collaboration and partnership; continuously measure, track, report, and optimize strategies to ensure continued success over time Develop and manage relationships with senior-level administrators (i.e. Division chairs, VP of Student and Academic Affairs, Institutional Research, Deans, etc.) Work with and through others to collaborate with the college partner’s academic departments to design and deliver a market-driven academic curriculum Set strategy and manage the synchronization of admissions and enrollment processes with and through the Admissions, Financial Aid, Testing, Registrar and Bursars departments; provide actionable insights and recommendations for achieving a unified enrollment process for all program applicants Team Management Set direction and manage a team of direct reports Provide specific guidance in the areas of professional responsibilities, prioritization, time and resource allocation Recruit, and directly or indirectly supervise, evaluate, develop, and retain talented program team members Design and integrate professional development opportunities for program staff, working closely with direct reports and other managers to develop professional development plans Work with and through a team of functional leaders to achieve programmatic metrics, including tracking progress towards goals, initiating interventions, and ensuring best practices are implemented Strategic Planning and Leadership Serve as senior member of the Executive Director’s leadership team with responsibility for ensuring strong site performance, planning and executing strategic growth, and partnering cross-functionally Inspire the team to achieve results against local targets and organizational goals Negotiate relationships with various internal and external stakeholders keeping in mind the desired outcomes of both systems (i.e., Year Up and the academic partner) Work collaboratively to evaluate academics, implement improvements, and strengthen program Work closely with a national cross-site team in shaping and implementing national programmatic goals and building capacity for enhancements Collaborate to plan and manage the program budget Site Team/Learning Community Member Serve as a coach/mentor for a small number of current students Join and sometimes facilitate weekly group sessions with students Participate in staff meetings and trainings QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum 7-10 years overall work experience preferred Experience in a management role with demonstrated success growing and scaling programs and initiatives related to student success and/or workforce readiness Experience navigating higher education institutions with a deep understanding of how to work with key departments to achieve results Exceptional track record of growth and strategic planning, as well operational results Comfort in a fast-paced, dynamic, complex start-up and/or entrepreneurial environment Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to build, cultivate and leverage personal and professional networks and relationships, develop and deliver successful presentations, and collaborate and negotiate effectively Experience in the design, development and delivery of adult education and/or with Year Up’s target population (at-risk young adults aged 18-24) is highly desirable Leadership experience and style that is transparent and authentic and that demonstrates innovation and creativity Able to collaborate across teams and with college partner to support students and resolve issues Enjoy working in a fluid, dynamic organization with a minimal amount of direction A passion for working with young adults, an unshakable belief in their potential, and a strong commitment to the mission of Year Up Understanding of the Opportunity Divide and its drivers Commitment to diversity and inclusion COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Salary: Competitive and commensurate with relevant experience and skills.
