Yamamoto of Orient Inc is Hiring a Safety Coordinator (Hybrid Schedule Available) Near Pomona, CA

Description

The Safety and Security Coordinator manages the organization’s safety and security programs. The position reviews, evaluates, and analyzes work environments to identify potential safety risks. They will design and implement procedures, guidelines, and equipment to promote and ensure industrial and ergonomic safety and health. May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals. In being part of the Human Resources department, an understanding of privacy laws and knowledge of HR is preferred.

Duties of Position

  • Inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Submits recommendations for improvements and additions to the safety management program including emergency preparedness, accident prevention, general safety, and risk management.
  • Maintain or update emergency response plans or procedures.
  • Develops and implements safety and loss-control policies and procedures.
  • Develop or maintain hygiene programs, such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, and ventilation surveys.
  • Develop or maintain medical monitoring programs for employees.
  • Coordinates the safety and security programs to promote and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Tours the facility and communicates with workers to identify safety risks and concerns.
  • Collect samples of dust, gases, vapors, or other potentially toxic materials for analysis.
  • Order suspension of activities that pose threats to workers' health or safety.
  • Maintain inventories of hazardous materials or hazardous wastes, using waste tracking systems to ensure that materials are handled properly.
  • Shares environmental safety information with appropriate levels in the organization.
  • Drafts reports, highlighting dangerous procedures, machinery, and other risks for management review.
  • Develops and implements a system to report, monitor, and correct safety problems.
  • Coordinate "right-to-know" programs regarding hazardous chemicals or other substances.
  • Adopts a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment; provides training and guidance to new and existing employees via safety bulletins, documentation, and training meetings.
  • Collaborates with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) representatives and internal safety staff during formal plant audits and inspections; documents corrective actions taken.
  • Stays up to date on changes in rules and regulations applicable to the organization’s safety and security programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Investigate health-related complaints and inspect facilities to ensure that they comply with public health legislation and regulations.
  • Investigate accidents to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
  • Investigate the adequacy of ventilation, exhaust equipment, lighting, or other conditions that could affect employee health, comfort, or performance.
  • Analyze incident data to identify trends in injuries, illnesses, accidents, or other hazards.

Requirements

 Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Extensive knowledge of company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Thorough understanding of mechanical engineering principles and health and safety laws.
  • Extensive knowledge of security protocols and emergency preparedness.

Computer Skills

  • Programs Proficient with Google Workspace & Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Excel experience enter, manipulate, and format text and numerical data; insert, delete, and manipulate cells, rows, and columns; and create and save worksheets, charts, and graphs.
  • Presentations Using a computer application to create, manipulate, edit, and show virtual slide presentations.
  • Graphics Working with pictures in graphics programs or other applications, including creating simple graphics, manipulating the appearance, and inserting graphics into other programs.
  • Databases Using a computer application to manage large amounts of information, including creating and editing simple databases, inputting data, retrieving specific records, and creating reports to communicate the information.

Working Conditions

Office, manufacturing, and warehouse environments; utilization of standard work equipment and manufacturing equipment. Must be able to lift a minimum of 20lbs. At times, the employee will be subject to extended sitting, standing, and walking. Exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable at times. 

Education/Training & Experience 

  • Associate degree
  • At least three years of experience in a manufacturing environment required.

Certifications/Licenses

  • OSHA 10 certified
  • OSHA 30 Certified
  • Certified Safety Professional status preferred
  • HR Certification a plus
