WSP USA is Hiring a Structural Engineer Near SUMMIT, NY

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Structural Engineer for our Valhalla, New York office. Be involved in bridge projects with our Transportation/Infrastructure Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients' objectives and solves their challenges. 

Provides support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers for due diligence, remediation, improvement, and/or construction of building and infrastructure projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include basic assistance with the research, design, concept development, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as buildings, bridges, roadways, and mechanical structures. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding assigned installations and construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.

Your Impact

  •  Assist with development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Perform structural analysis and design for bridges and transportation structures utilizing appropriate computer software tools and applications.
  • Support managers in the creation of plans, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates in accordance with client requirements.
  • Work in a team to make sure that work product meets scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements.
  • Prepare drawings in AUTOCAD/MicroStation or REVIT and perform design calculations in support of broader engineering activities
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local and privately funded improvement and development projects.
  • Work independently and as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, architects, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work, assist with laying out installations, establishing reference points/elevations/grades to guide construction, selecting appropriate materials to ensure durability, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos. 
  • Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering with Concentration in Structures.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience including infrastructure planning, design for rehabilitation or new design. 
  • Engineer in Training Certification.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction principles, practices, laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering. 
  • Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (e.g., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Bentley Bridge, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, STAAD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
  • Design experience of Complex infrastructure projects.
