WSP USA is Hiring a Sr. Mechanical Engineer Near OFFICE PKWY, NY

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to be based out of New York at our client job site in Massena, New York. Be involved in projects with our NY Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. 

Your Impact

  • Design of mechanical projects involving steel and/or concrete as part of a larger multi-discipline teams, primarily Energy/Industry Projects associated with material handling, heavey metals and conveyor systems. 
  • Perform professional mechanical engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building, infrastructure, usage, and mechanical systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
  • Develop project specifications for material and equipment purchase and installation.
  • Preliminary and detailed mechanical/civil/structural design of conveyors, supports, foundations, gantry and other structures.
  • Develop quantity take-offs, engineering cost estimates for Energy and Industry projects. 
  • Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, assist with laying out installation of equipment, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, schematics, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Liasion between the client team at site and the WSP engineering team in various offices.
  • Meet with clients, prepare deliverables, network with Client for Business Development
  • Work with the Office Manager and contribute to the overall business development of the jobsite
  • Prepare technical reports/drawings/specifications.
  • Perform safety inspections and help prepare reports in conformance with state or federal regulatory guidelines.
  • Design calculations, modeling studies, drawings, reports, and project standards and specifications.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with building and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
  • The candidate must be willing to participate in domestic and international travel, when necessary.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior mechanical, structural or civil design experience. 
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) Certification.
  • Proficient knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
  • Experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation and new design projects.
  • Working knowledge of relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
  • Experience with planning and conducting inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of buildings, facilities, or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Identifying and addressing obsolescence issues with existing equipment.
  • Creating, maintaining, and updating equipment files and drawings using AUTOCAD and other software packages.
  • Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities, structures and systems, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, CAM), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Ability to obtain PE License within 1 to 2 years.
  • Masters Degree in Mechanical/Civil/Structural Engineering.
  • Working knowledge and experience with material handling facilities.
  • Member and active participant in industry organizations.
  • 10/40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
  • Local Safety Area Council Training.
  • TWIC Card Credentials.
