This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Lead Electrical Engineer for our Arlington, VA location to work on projects involving electrical systems design including power distribution, emergency power systems, lighting, fire alarm, communications, and site electrical systems for healthcare, higher education, laboratories, commercial, mixed-use and industrial facilities. Your Impact

  • Oversee complex new construction, renovation, and electrical infrastructure projects including review and approval of electrical infrastructure design plans, ensuring data integrity and compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Apply high-level electrical engineering techniques and processes for various project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
  • Plan and incorporate future-ready techniques, concept development, operating strategies, and various electrical design requirements.
  • Prepare and review electrical calculations for loads, equipment sizing, grounding touch and step potentials, short circuit study, overcurrent protective device coordination, one-line diagram development, and protective relaying.
  • Lead electrical engineering projects including preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, supervising subcontractors, task completion, cost and quantities of materials/equipment/labor, and technical calculations.
  • Develop and review plans, specifications, and cost estimates, and updating electrical infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, concepts, and recommendations.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • Remain current in latest electrical engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with electrical emphasis.
  • 7 years of post education experience as an Electrical Engineer including design deliverables for projects in complex buildings such as healthcare, laboratories, mission critical, data centers, or science and technology.
  • Professional Engineer license required.
  • Proficient with electrical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Experience with electrical infrastructure planning, design, and construction management including comprehensive experience working with adjacent disciplines such as mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering.
  • Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities or structures, applying applicable regulations and policies.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to express ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • High-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Highly proficient with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • LEED Accredited.
  • Experience with healthcare projects.
  • Project management experience.
