This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Fire Protection Engineer for our Washington, DC office. The following location will also be considered: Columbia, MD. Be involved in projects with our Federal Programs Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
This is an entry level opportunity to provide technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, design, development, building, testing, and inspection of fire and life safety systems for our federal and state government clients sector.
Your Impact
- Design of fire protection and life safety systems including automatic fire sprinkler systems, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke management systems, and egress systems.
- Interpretation of building code, life safety, and fire code requirements. This will include familiarity with both ICC and NFPA codes, including IBC and NFPA 101.
- Review of architectural drawings for compliance with building and fire code requirements
- Negotiating with authorities having jurisdiction on fire safety designs and proposals.
- Producing with limited guidance fire safety strategy documents to inform and support the chosen building form throughout the design process.
- With minimal support, performing fire engineering calculations such as hydraulics, smoke modeling, evacuation analysis, etc.
- Assist in the commissioning of fire protection and life safety systems in commercial, institutional and industrial facilities.
- Directly interfacing with the client.
- Following quality control review processes of all project documentation.
- Support developing project proposals and budgets.
- Participating in department initiatives.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Protection Engineering or related engineering degree.
- 1-3 years of fire protection and life safety consulting experience.
- Experience in fire protection engineering design applications.
- REVIT and AutoCAD proficiency.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- This role is subject to a client-mandated drug/alcohol testing policy. As such, employee may
be subject to random drug/alcohol tests. A copy of this policy will be provided during employee onboarding and is available upon applicant request.
Preferred Qualifications:
- EIT/P.E. is preferred.
- Experience with Federal Government Agencies (DOD, GSA, FEMA, EPA, etc.)
- Ability to obtain a US Government Secret Clearance
