Job Description

Safety Manager (SM) will help build our safety organization and assist World View in managing the risks inherent in aerospace development, flight operations, ground operations, and manufacturing.

In this role, the SM will facilitate the implementation of World View’s Safety Management System (SMS) as well as the overall safety program. Core responsibilities will include contributing to the World View team by improving safety processes, documenting various system safety analyses, building and maintaining the hazard database, assisting with safety-related requirements management, and developing and implementing safety policies and programs to support all departments.

Role Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the company Safety Management System (SMS)
• Develop and implement occupational safety policies and programs
• Develop, implement, and oversee the World View hazardous waste program
• Audit operational safety compliance across all departments
• Evaluate safety policies and programs to ensure effectiveness
• Conduct job hazard analyses to support hazard elimination or mitigation
• Ensure compliance with regulatory directives such as: OSHA, FAA, EPA, NTSB, and fire codes
• Manage the Safety Operations Investigation program to proactively investigate safety accidents, incidents, and mishaps
• Participate in the Emergency Preparedness Program and develop checklists, train staff, conduct response drills, and integrated World View response action in coordination with applicable stakeholders
• Participate in and provide safety input for all Safety Review Boards (SRB)s
• Be available to support both local and offsite flight operations when needed
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and mishaps to determine the cause and formulate corrective actions to help prevent similar mishaps in the future.
• Maintain accident and incident records, files, and reports.
• Develop a safety lessons learned process.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university in aviation or occupational safety
• Extensive knowledge of safety processes
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience in a fast paced, dynamic flight operations or airline environment – 5 years preferred
• Working knowledge of and experience working with OSHA, FAA, EPA, and fire regulations
• Extensive experience in risk management and mitigation
• At least one former position in a safety-related leadership role
• Intimately familiar with SMS and QMS
• Very detail-oriented and able to work independently or in groups
• Able to change directions with the needs of the work environment and take-on additional responsibilities based on operational needs
• Proficient in performing hazard analysis, fault tree analysis, failure diagnosis and data/trend analysis
• Knowledge and ability to apply system safety analysis tools

Bonus Points

• Previous experience in conducting aircraft accident investigations
• Balloon operations experience
• Prior US Military, NASA, Commercial Aviation, or DOD Aviation Safety experience
