DutiesThe City of Virginia Beach is hiring an Engineer to perform basic to moderately complex engineering work and coordinate the work of traffic technicians in the work zone traffic control aspects of the following traffic engineering duties:

- Serve as engineer-in-charge of work zone traffic control designs and issues;
- Prepare and review maintenance of traffic design plans and specifications for municipal projects;
- Perform temporary traffic control reviews of commercial, residential, and subdivision site plans;
- Review right-of-way permits and coordinate comments with city staff, contractors, and consultants;
- Inspect work zones for compliance with the Virginia Work Area Protection Manual;
- Conduct field investigations, meet with appropriate persons, and recommend solutions in response to city staff, design engineer, contractor, and citizen requests in the area of temporary traffic control;
- Design and review temporary traffic control plans for special events, and
- Serve as lead instructor for all levels of the Virginia Work Zone Traffic Control certification classes for city staff
