Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is Hiring a Content Producer Near Woods Hole, MA

Job Summary

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution’s Communications Department is searching for a Content Producer to join the Creative Studio. This is a half-time, non-exempt position, and is eligible for benefits.

Reporting to the Creative Director, the Content Producer supports Institutional communications and marketing efforts by creating content for websites, social media channels, earned media, print publications such as Oceanus magazine, and outreach efforts of research projects, as necessary. They work closely with the Creative Services team, others in the Communications department–including writers, web developers, and marketing staff—and with WHOI scientists and engineers, to ensure that their content is appealing, engaging, accurate, and strategically supports larger goals and WHOI’s brand.

Essential Functions

The Content Producer will:

  • Write, edit, repurpose, and publish content (e.g. text, video, audio, infographics, and imagery) for various Communications department digital efforts including websites, social media posts/campaigns, press releases, email, and digital reports.
  • Write and edit content for print publications including Oceanus magazine, Institutional and Advancement reports, whitepapers, displays, exhibits, and more.
  • Support content needs of researchers and leadership as needed, such as project websites and NSF Broader Impacts projects.
  • Edit existing content to ensure that it is grammatically correct and engaging to the reader.
  • Interview scientists, researchers, technical staff, or other individuals with relevant knowledge about a particular topic to gather information for content development, whether on campus or in the field.
  • Work with Communications/Creative to take videos or photographs either in the field or on campus to document activities or to accompany original content, including short videos and slideshows.
  • Collaborate with designers or programmers to develop visual content such as infographics or animated images.

Education & Experience

The Content Producer must have both a strong writing ability as well as knowledge of design and information visualization principles with continuing knowledge of innovations and trends within those fields.

Additionally, the candidate must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in writing or related discipline with
  • 4 years experience in professional content production
  • Should be tech savvy, and familiar with the Mac/Adobe Creative Suite environment
  • Desire and capacity to stay abreast of current and shifting trends, as well as industry standards and tools
  • Ability to absorb and apply constructive criticism from peers and clients
  • Capacity to prioritize workload, and manage multiple projects efficiently and effectively
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Physical Requirements

Physical duties for this position include visual abilities to include, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to distinguish basic colors. Hearing requirements include the ability to hear and respond to instructions. Other physical tasks include mostly sedentary, working around others, alone and with others. Physical duties are subject to change.
