The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate books and records for our engineering construction company. Key aspects of the role include processing accounting transactions, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and other ad-hoc reporting. The ideal candidate is motivated, detail-oriented, with a positive attitude, a will to win, and an ability to effectively communicate with staff and management.

This is a hybrid position where you will be working with the Cary, North Carolina team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the monthly close process
  • Manage and maintain general ledger, posting majority of journal entries in Deltek Vision
  • Responsible for the preparation of monthly and annual financial statements which includes balance sheet, income statement by division, cash flows, SG&A
  • Keep daily cash flow reports and forecasts of cash
  • Prepare and analyze monthly KPI’s
  • Manage and maintain company fixed asset listing
  • Assist with transition to new ERP
  • Prepare supporting schedules for third-party CPA as part of the annual Audit
  • Assist with monthly project reviews and compilation of related data, analyzing, and understanding project profitability
  • Support the bi-weekly payroll through Unanet as necessary
  • Coordinate monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filing requirements with third-party CPA and payroll processor
  • Prepare Annual Overhead Rate Calculation as determined by Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)
  • Work with Accounts Payable to ensure accurate reporting
  • Determine areas for improvement and coordinate and provide necessary training
  • Ensure employee development and engagement of any direct reports

Requirements

  • Experience using Accounting Software and ability to learn new software quickly
  • Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of experience in accounting 
  • A Certified Public Accountant is preferred
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Working experience preparing financial statements
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Proven ability to provide direction and guidance to others
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and reasoning ability
  • Reliable team player with a strong work ethic and a “will to win” attitude
  • Self-starter, driven to succeed and willing to take on new challenges.

Working Conditions

The assignment will require occasional evening and weekend work and working in collaborative, fast-paced, and client-driven environment.

Physical Requirements

The assignment may occasionally require repetitive physical tasks (such as operating a computer), standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time, extended time travelling in a vehicle, and carrying equipment and materials up to 25 pounds.
