Job Title:  CNC Operator                       

Department:  Engineering- Machine Shop in Tolleson, AZ

Supervisor’s Title:    VP  Engineering and R&D                

Job Summary:

CNC Operator is responsible for producing machined parts by setting up, and operating a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine while maintaining quality and safety standards.  This position is responsible for keeping records and maintaining equipment and supplies.




  1. Performs functions related to CNC machine precision, fixtures, tools and products from drawing in accordance with established procedures. Must be able to perform duties with limited supervision.
  2. Comprehend and read machine blueprints, work orders and engineering plans.
  3. Import and export CAD files.
  4. Interpret geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
  5. Edit programs for CNC mills and/or lathes, setting tools, offsets, compensation.
  6. Use CMM equipment to check inline quality of production parts
  7. Setup mills and/or lathes by installing and adjusting vices, three and four jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, etc. as required
  8. Maintains specifications while using various quality checks for detecting malfunctions and troubleshooting processes.
  9. Maintain cutting tools and make necessary adjustments in machine controls to meet part specifications.
  10. Review preventative maintenance log to ensure requirements are up to date.
  11. Actively pursues continuous improvement to reduce downtime and improve equipment efficiency
  12. Comply with all safety rules, policies, procedures and practices to include performing lock out tag out of production equipment when required.
  13. Responsible for informing the leadership team immediately of any failure to meet established quality standards to ensure that corrective action is taken.
  14. Maintain a safe and clean work area and equipment at all times.
  15. Performs other duties as assigned by the Team Lead, Team Supervisor or Department Manager.

Physical Demands:

  1. Work a 10 hour shift while sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, reaching, grasping, use hands to finger, grasp with hands and arms, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and lifting throughout the entire shift.
  2. Requires the manual movement of items weighing up to 50 pounds.

Working Conditions:

  1. In-doors in a manufacturing environment that is air conditioned.
  2. Schedule can change but normally work a 10 hour day shift (Monday through Thursday).



Education – High School Diploma or GED.  CNC training and CNC experience a plus.

Experience – Blueprint reading, strong math skills, CNC lathe programming and operating experience a plus.   

Skills – Computer skills (Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word). Good problem solving analysis skills. Knowledge of machine shop and inspection equipment.  Must be able to read, write and speak English.  Good oral and written communication skills, works well with others.
