The Boulder Public Library District (BPLD) is committed to advancing equity in our diverse community by providing accessible programs, print and digital materials, tools and technology, and educational opportunities. Job Summary: The Archive Manager leads staff and volunteers in creating a dynamic, community-activated local history collection. The Manager cultivates inclusivity and responsible stewardship through access to, use of, and contributions to, the local history archival resources. They design programs and services to expand community interest and use of the archives. The Manager cultivates relationships with partners and other contributors to enrich the archive’s collection, programs, services, and reach in the community.

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt role of 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and administers archive policies and best practices for archival preservation. Coordinates with Collection Services on cataloging best practices and collection development goals. Coordinates with vendors and partners to manage and monitor collections stored in offsite locations. (25%)
  • Develops, directs and participates in the customer service model for the archive and for community outreach. Oversees the promotion of the archive’s resources via communication and social media channels in coordination with the communications team. (25%)
  • Cultivates and maintains collaborative relationships with community partners to activate the archives through programs and events. (20%)
  • Oversees and tracks expenditure of the archive budget for supplies, projects, programs and events and manages the collection of fees. Consults with Collection Services on the use of collection development budget allocated for purchase of archive materials. (15%)
  • Conducts recruitment, hiring, training and evaluation of archive staff. Supports staff members with recruiting, directing and overseeing the contributions of volunteers. Schedules staff members, substitute workers, and volunteers to perform various public services and community programs. (15%)

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates with Facilities Operations and Maintenance team to oversee the facility and monitor the work of contract service providers.
  • Attends meetings, serves on library-wide committees and projects, and participates in professional development opportunities.
  • Evaluates programs and services, and reports archive use statistics.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education and experience: Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or Archival Studies and two years of progressive responsibility and three years of supervisory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of and experience with the application of current archival preservation standards. Experience designing and producing public programs and creating community partnerships. Experience developing and administering policies that support stewardship of the archive resources that promote open and convenient access.
  • Skills: Comfort and experience with public speaking, negotiation, and training/educating others. Intermediate skill with MS Office suite, social media, digital asset management systems. Proficiency with use and troubleshooting skills related to archival equipment such as scanners, microfilm readers, cameras, recording equipment, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of Boulder County geography and history.
  • Spanish language skills and/or experience working with patrons from a variety of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Working Conditions:

Light work in an office environment. Exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Performing repetitive motions. Grasping, lifting and/or raising objects from a lower to a higher position, or moving objects horizontally from position-to position. Seeing, hearing, and speaking required.
