Wilmington Community Television is Hiring an Operations Manager Near Wilmington, MA

Wilmington Community Television (WCTV) seeks a new full-time Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day facilities, equipment and production operations of our state of the art media center in Wilmington, Mass.

The ideal candidate should have a strong background in A/V equipment, engineering and running both live and taped productions. The Operations Manager should be comfortable working collaboratively as part of a team, as well as taking charge and working independently. The ideal Operations Manager will have a strong foundation in A/V technology and be able to troubleshoot and make repairs to equipment and technology in the studio and on the road on an as needed basis.

The Operations Manager will play a key role in not just running the daily operations of WCTV, but in helping to steer the ship as the station continues to move forward into a new era of production, technology and community engagement.

The ideal candidate should align with the current strategy of being an active station, with the staff producing content on a regular basis and members contributing either as producers or volunteer assistants. The station embraces social media and online video-on-demand as tools to make sure content is reaching a wide audience. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors, which offers support and guidance on the company’s mission.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversees WCTV’s day-to-day operations, as related to equipment and facilities
  • Identifies and troubleshoots problems. Makes small repairs or sends equipment out to be fixed
  • Delegates tasks and roles related to WCTV production and operational upkeep
  • Maintains inventory of station equipment
  • Ensures equipment outside WCTV (Wilmington High School, Town Hall, etc.) is working properly and ready for live broadcasts
  • Works with the Executive Director to identify both short-term and long-term equipment needs of the station
  • Overseas all studio and field tech, both infrastructure and production-wise
  • Oversees capital projects, especially AV engineering projects.
  • Maintains edit bays and oversees networking of all office computers
  • Serves as the chief technical advisor for member programming
  • Monitors quality of studio & field productions and gives feedback
  • Develops and implements training programs for membership and staff
  • Serves as a main point person for all technical questions
  • Serves as the primary technical director for major studio and field productions, including remote live streaming.
  • Plays a lead editing role in ongoing and new documentary and cinematic style-productions
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Proficient in Broadcast Pix, Black Magic, or other comparable switcher and graphics systems
  • College degree in Communications, Television/Radio or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience working in the implementation and maintenance of a television station; experience in public access preferred
  • Advanced technical proficiency and ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills
  • Basic AV engineering knowledge (knowledge of signal flow, wire connections, etc)
  • Familiarity and experience with running livestream programming
  • Ability to clearly communicate and work with staff & volunteers on technical issues
  • Ability to teach membership on television equipment
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere, AfterEffects, Final Cut Pro, and Photoshop preferred
  • Ability to effectively communicate
  • Ability to keep a positive attitude, even in stressful situations
  • Valid driver’s license required. This person will need to drive their personal car to events on occasion.
  • This person must be able to lift at least 40 pounds and may be required to work on their feet at length.

Established in 1987, WCTV is a non-profit organization serving the media needs of Wilmington, Massachusetts. A 2021 community survey found 9 out of 10 people believe it’s an important part of the community that shouldn’t be lost. 77% of respondents said they had watched a WCTV program in the past year, with a quarter of residents reporting that they watch weekly.

WCTV’s social media channels regularly reach thousands of people each day. The station uses those accounts to promote content from staff and volunteer producers. Last year, WCTV was home to more than 500 locally produced pieces of content, with online viewership measured in tens of thousands of views each year.

Programming includes not just traditional studio shows and events, but also a great deal of cinematic style productions as well as podcasts and simulcasts. WCTV has just completed a complete build of a brand new, cutting-edge podcast studio with integrated video systems in addition to its traditional studio space.

WCTV’s Youth Programs run year-round and have grown in recent years to include about 100 students, from 4th grade through high school. These programs have become a vital part of the operation, making connections with families and providing a space for young content creators.
