Description

Position Overview:

Render comprehensive primary medical care as a member of the health care team for Pediatric and Adolescent patients (birth to 21 years of age) registered at the Center. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Ryan Health.

Essential Functions:

  • Render quality medical services normally expected of a pediatrician in primary care practice: gather historical information, examine, diagnose and treat illnesses, evaluate health status, initiate preventive and therapeutic measures.
  • Carry a patient caseload consistent with Center goals and external mandates for quality of care and productivity.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, including adequate and legible progress notes in the medical record; complete forms in a timely manner as required by schools, agencies, insurances, or regulatory bodies in the Center’s data collection system (e.g. encounters).
  • Take responsibility for reports of the patient's laboratory, radiology and other studies, providing appropriate and timely management and continuity of care.
  • Refer patients, as indicated, to other primary care and specialty services within Ryan Health (including ancillary and social services), and to appropriate outside facilities for tests, procedures, and. specialty consultations.
  • Communicate on an ongoing basis with other health care providers and staff all aspects of the patient’s health needs, always respecting the importance of patient confidentiality.
  • Participate in on-call telephone coverage on a rotating basis as assigned by the Medical Director. Current Call schedule is every seven (7) weeks and twice a year it changes to every twelve (12) weeks. It is a one-week call starting Monday evening 5pm to the next Monday at 8:30am. 
  • Assist in peer review chart audits and other appropriate quality improvement activities.
  • Maintain professional competence through participation in conferences, CPR and ACLS/PALS training, and continuing medical education activities.
  • Seek and maintain credentials in affiliated managed care organizations.
  • Participate in the on-the-job teaching of non-physician staff by imparting understanding of the rationale and methods of diagnostic and therapeutic activities on an ongoing basis, and, when requested, in a more formal manner.
  • Work hours as necessary to maintain the patient care needs of the Pediatric Department.
  • Participate in collaborative practice agreements with mid-levels providers, as requested.
  • Practice accepted infection control measures in accordance with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standards, and Center Policies and Procedures.
  • Attend all meeting and/or training sessions as required.
  • Immediately report any problems or unusual occurrences to supervisor.
  • Other special projects/assignments as needed.

Qualifications


Minimum Experience and Skills Required:

  • Clinical experience acquired during approved residency program.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.

Education, Licenses and/or Certifications Required:

  • Graduate of an approved Medical School.
  • Completion of an approved Pediatric Residency Program.
  • Current New York State license and current registration.
  • Board Certified or evidence of Board eligibility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual: English and Spanish.
  • Experience in community-based medicine.

Work Environment

The work is primarily in a mental health clinic and/or general primary care setting which includes the unpredictability in behaviors of individuals and acute and chronic infectious diseases which may be contagious. Adequate preparation and precaution is necessary.
