Westside Family Healthcare is a nonprofit organization that provides high quality primary medical care without regard to ability to pay. The Behavioral Health Counselor at Westside provides counseling with an emphasis on prevention, working with individuals and groups to promote optimum behavioral, mental and emotional health. The Behavioral Health Counselor may help individuals deal with issues associated with addictions and substance abuse; family, parenting, and marital problems; stress management; self-esteem; and aging.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients' treatment.
  2. Collect information about clients through interviews, observation, review of medical records and/or tests and prepare and maintain all required treatment records and reports, entering information into the electronic medical records system in accordance with policy.
  3. Evaluate clients' physical or mental condition and develop, implement and modify treatment plans.
  4. Counsel clients or patients, individually or in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, or developing skills or strategies for dealing with their problems.
  5. Act as client advocate to coordinate required services or to resolve emergency problems in crisis situations.
  6. Collaborate with other staff members to perform clinical assessments or develop treatment plans.
  7. Counsel family members to assist them in understanding, dealing with, or supporting clients or patients.
  8. Monitor clients' use of medications.
  9. Learn about new developments in counseling by reading professional literature, attending courses and seminars, or establishing and maintaining contact with other social service agencies.
  10. Gather information about community mental health needs or resources that could be used in conjunction with therapy and refer patients, clients, or family members to community resources or to specialists as necessary.
  11. Coordinate or direct employee workshops, courses, or training about mental health issues.
  12. Assist the primary care and behavioral health teams in developing care management processes such as the use of screenings, disease management techniques, case management and patient education.

Requirements

MINIMUM OBJECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s degree in mental health counseling, social work, psychology or a related healthcare, social science or human services field
  2. Delaware licensure in a counseling field (i.e., Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health, Licensed Associate Counselor of Mental Health)
  3. One year of social work and behavioral health experience
  4. One year of management experience
  5. Six months of experience using Microsoft Office software suite
