Notice of Anticipated 2022 - 2023 Vacancy

Position: Athletic Field Maintainer/Groundskeeper - Fulltime

Job Goal: The Weston Public Schools are currently seeking a skilled groundskeeper with

extensive experience working on athletic fields to maintain the district’s seven

baseball and softball fields. While the scope of this position extends beyond just

athletic fields, and also includes general groundskeeping duties throughout the

campus, the position’s main focus is on the proper care and upkeep of these fields,

which are used extensively by both school teams and town leagues.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Experience in maintaining athletic fields, particularly baseball and softball fields
  • Perform infield maintenance and repair work of the fields, including watering infields; repairing bases, pitching mounds, batter’s boxes and transition areas of the infield and outfield
  • Knowledge of proper field maintenance, including filling infield holes, adding clay when necessary and inspecting fields for proper safety
  • Knowledge of, and ability to, mow, edge, trim, rake, line, scarify, seed, groom, and regrade fields
  • Rake, sweep, blow and pick up clippings, paper and trash from fields
  • Prepare fields for games, including dragging the infield, chalking the field, watering the infield and setting bases
  • Keep up-to-date with the latest best practices for athletic field maintenance
  • Maintain all campus grounds, courtyards, etc. including mowing, weeding, pruning, raking, trimming, sweeping, plowing, sanding and trash removal
  • Operate and maintain a variety of mowers and equipment to maintain fields and lawns, including mowers, spreaders, trimmers, lining equipment, blowers, edgers, chains saws and weed whackers
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment and keep equipment in operational order by performing preventative maintenance
  • Trim/prune trees up to a certain height
  • Perform basic repairs and maintenance of playground equipment and identify any safety issues
  • Perform snow removal duties, including by hand and with snow removal equipment
  • Collaborate with the maintenance staff
  • Work on weekends, especially during baseball and softball season

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a similar work area
  • Working knowledge of field maintenance, grounds, and custodial equipment, including lawn mowers, trimmers, floor machines, etc.
  • Must be able to maintain equipment in good and safe operating condition
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • Must be a good team member, able to cooperate with co-workers and supervisors
  • Must be flexible to fill-in other job areas as needed (Custodial/Maintenance)
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports To: Grounds Foreman

Employment Terms: Full time - 12 Month position – competitive salary packet with
excellent benefits per contract with local 1303-110 (AFSCME)
