The groundskeeper, under supervision of the grounds superintendent, participates in the maintenance of the tennis courts, croquet court, playing fields, event lawns, gardens, and hardscape within the property. The grounds crew member performs work involving the use of utility vehicles, rotary lawn mowers, reel lawn mowers, small engine equipment, tennis maintenance equipment, gardening tools, and other grounds maintenance equipment.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Participates in the maintenance of all event lawns and fine turf by irrigating, mowing, edging, hand trimming, over seeding and fertilizing.
• Prepares areas for seed or sod, lay sod and sow seed.
• Operates equipment as directed by the grounds superintendent.
• Performs daily tennis court maintenance.
• Cleans up litter and debris, empties trash containers, and collects rubbish.
• Maintains property trees, shrubs, and flower beds by planting, mulching, weeding, watering, and pruning.
• Keeps up athletic fields using appropriate lawn care procedures, including striping playing surfaces, and game field preparation.
• Moves furniture and carries out special work orders for facility set-ups.
• Maintains grounds equipment.
• Performs other duties as directed by the grounds superintendent.

Qualifications

Knowledge and Skill Set Requirements

• Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in grounds and landscape area maintenance work.
• Ability to safely and efficiently operate light motorized equipment.
• Uses equipment carefully and respectfully.

Minimum Education/Prior Experience/ Qualifications Required

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Knowledge of and the ability to use different hand tools such as shovels, rakes, pruners, weed-trimmers, hedge-trimmers, and push-mowers
• Prior grounds maintenance experience preferred.
• Possession of a valid driver's license.

Physical Requirements

Work is physically taxing and performed outdoors in all kinds of weather requiring:

• Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time
• Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
• Dexterity sufficient to manipulate objects with fingers
• Basic agility for lifting and maneuvering large amounts of weight
• Communication skills using the written and/or spoken word
• Vision sufficient to see objects within normal parameters, peripherally and at a distance
• A great deal of physical effort, often required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl
• Some degree of exposure to physical risk
• While performing the duties of Groundskeeper, the employee may be required to lift and/or move 51-100 pounds.

Standard Club Requirements: 

Employees are expected to present a clean and neat appearance while on the job. Clothing is to be kept clean and pressed. Personal cleanliness is expected, including wearing deodorant, bathing and oral hygiene. Excessive make-up and jewelry is not permitted. Employees are expected to arrive to work on time and leave personal belongings at home or in a locker. Employees should conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner when dealing with members, management and other staff.

Work Hours:

Full and Part time employees must work all scheduled shifts. We have a short three month season at the Westmoor Club and need every employee to be here 100% of the time that they were hired for. Requested days off will try to be honored by management but never guaranteed. If there is a scheduling need within the club, that takes priority. This includes Holiday’s, Mornings, Afternoons, Nights and Weekends. If an employee is sick they are expected to get their shift covered and speak directly to a manager for approval. All employee shift changes must be put in writing on a (shift change request form) and approved by a manager. We do understand that people get sick and things come up so please be flexible and helpful to other employees that may need a shift covered.
