The Machine Shop Manager is responsible for the safe manufacture of company products which may represent a broad diversity of manufacturing processes. Responsible for satisfying all safety, quality, and productivity requirements in the most cost-effective manner. This position requires significant initiative and the ability to deliver results. Must be to develop, implement, and achieve ambitious stretch goals and have a proven track record of developing talent in their direct reports. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Have experience in the following: CNC and Machine Tool environment Knowledge in blueprint reading, work order process, and understanding of tolerances/ specifications Customer and vendor support Quality Control/Assurance knowledge, QMS Regulatory industry experience (ISO9001) Production scheduling, planning, ordering Inventory, Routers, BOM's, etc. MS excel, ERP system knowledge, computer skills Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Provide leadership and communication to the Machine shop team to ensure understanding and attainment of performance objectives and monthly shipment plan Interpret company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations Maintain operational focus, prioritize tactical plans, measure actual performance against plan, implement counter measures where appropriate and drive lean/continuous improvement initiatives · Promote understanding of PCC tools and principles to ensure continuous improvement Manage direct reports; establish schedule, quality, and cost targets; delegate to direct reports or teams with direct reports to accomplish goals Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product. Drives changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew. Analyze and resolve work problems or assist in solving work problems. Work with other managers to coordinate and align business unit operations and activities; plan and establish work schedules, assignments, and resources to meet goals Partner with HR and direct reports to resolve problems, complaints, or grievances; forecast staffing and participate in the selection process Develops, trains, and involves employees in maintaining and improving departmental safety, efficiency, productivity, quality, cooperation, and morale Partner with Quality to align goals with Business Quality Management System (BQMS) Champion and facilitate the LEAN initiatives Develop and deploy management metrics Support IT and Production with long-range resource plans May perform special projects Other duties as assigned Training: Type of training Frequency Orientation Upon Hire Safety Annual Refresher Manufacturing Operating Procedures Determined at Yearly Performance Review Leadership Determined at Yearly Performance Review Required Skills/Experience: Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of and ability to apply budgeting process and financial management tools Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality controls, and costs Familiar with lean manufacturing work area practices, including 5-S, Visual Controls, Standard Work, work center metrics, and continuous improvement processes and able to instruct others in these practices Demonstrated ability to manage more complex processes, procedures, and functions Knowledge of ERP and similar production management systems Knowledge of management principles involved in strategic planning and forecasting including people, material, and equipment resource allocations; corporate and human resources policies and benefits; leadership and teaming; and production methods Motivate, develop, and direct people as they work, identifying the best people for the job Consider costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one Proactive communicator who can clearly articulate results and needs across all levels Able to establish and communicate clear priorities and to influence others to support and act on those priorities Proven ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals. Maintain time, production, and training records. Define, establish, and enhance the roles, goals, and responsibilities for all employees within the department. Ensure that all employees are effectively trained, and skill sets match performance requirements. Required Experience: 10 years related experience 5 years in a leadership experience Level of Education: BS/MS in engineering or management field preferred; or equivalent experience Relocation lump sum assistance available for qualified candidates.
