Western Healthcare Alliance (WHA) began in 1989 when a small group of rural Colorado hospitals decided that there was power in numbers. Today, WHA has 31 healthcare members in Colorado and Utah. Of these 31 members, 21 own Healthcare Management, a separate entity, that provides revenue cycle solutions to healthcare entities. Developing and managing a menu of member-owned and partner programs, WHA saves members money that helps them remain sustainable and viable in their communities.

Summary

The Junior Systems Administrator is responsible for providing technical assistance to staff members of Western Healthcare Alliance (WHA) and Healthcare Management (HCM) and the customers they serve. The role of the Junior Systems Administrator is to be the customers’ initial contact to diagnose, analyze, and resolve software, hardware, network, and telecommunications issues for all stages and types of technical incidences that might be encountered, primarily in regard to the systems application to which he or she is assigned. This position will serve as the IT Department’s liaison to other WHA and HCM departments regarding issues of the system applications that this position oversees and coordinates acceptable resolutions and special projects with departmental management in regard to that application. Furthermore, this position will provide the first level of service for the IT Department but should be prepared to present adequate documentation and communication regarding issues requiring escalation to other members of the IT Department. The position will also maintain appropriate documentation and educational materials. Excellent communication and customer service skills are essential.

The Junior Systems Administrator will also collaborate and share responsibility in planning, implementing, overseeing, and maintaining the servers (on-premises, remote and in the cloud) plus help oversee network infrastructure and related projects. Will share responsibility to assure all systems are kept up-to-date, secure, backed up, and in optimal working order. Will also assist in providing second level support for Help Desk services and customer support.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist the team with Help Desk calls and tickets, providing support and timely resolutions for both internal and external users on issues such as (but not restricted to) the following:
    • Workstation builds, repair, and support
    • Software installation, diagnostics, and support
    • Hardware installation, diagnostics and support
    • Cabling and basic Network configurations
    • Physical and Network Security, including handling of cybersecurity threats
    • User accounts and profile builds, configuration, support and training
    • Peripheral equipment (e.g., Printers, Fax, Copier) installation and support
    • Telephony installation, diagnostics, and support
    • Documentation, both for end-user training and for internal departmental reference
    • Asset management
  • Access, analyzes, and problem-solve issues regarding the specialty application, working directly and tracking issues with the vendor of that application, and meeting with and coordinating resolutions with departmental management, and providing any necessary training to affected staff.
  • Assist in remote access and familiarization of client systems and provide local support of those systems, acting as a liaison between our users and the clients and their respective IT support staff.
  • Collaboratively acquire, configure and maintain development, test and production servers. Help support development, test and production servers including after-hours support and monitoring server usage and up-time, include (but not limited to):
    • Build new purpose-built systems for applications;
    • Create VMware Horizon workstations for multi-user workspaces
    • Work on upgrade current server infrastructure to the latest version of Windows server OS platforms.
  • Assist in providing direction in complex problem-solving situations and participate in direct interaction with internal staff as required. Identify process improvement opportunities through the optimum use of the servers.
  • Collaboratively design, implement and maintain a consistent backup and disaster recovery plan.
  • Work in partnership with other team members, operations, QA and third-party data centers to provide technical direction on network topologies, server configuration, hardware/software deployments, firewall configurations and other administrative tasks related to the staging and maintenance of company development, testing, and production servers.
  • Assist in the timely and effective delivery of hardware upgrades, network upgrades and new configurations.
  • Assist in the configuration of system security and the monitoring and prevention of cybersecurity attacks.
  • Maintain currency and familiarity of systems operations and related skillsets and responsibilities, including any appropriate certifications and training.
  • Consult with fellow IT personnel to clarify program intent, identification of problems, suggested changes, and to determine the extent of viable resolutions.
  • Maintain database of IT’s hardware, software, phone numbers, and user accesses.
  • Adhere and enforce security protocols and procedures, and maintain a database and repository of security contracts and agreements.
  • Prepares standard statistical reports, such as Help Desk incident reports and tracking of reoccurring issues.

Knowledge, Skills and Requirements

  • Must have at least a 2-year technical or associate degree in computers (or related technical field) and 3 year of on-the-job experience, or 7 years of on-the-job experience.
  • Expert skills in Windows 10 and in Microsoft Office 2016 or greater (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote) is preferred. Apple Mac experience would be a plus.
  • At least one IT Certification such as MCSE, MCSA, Network , or Security .
  • Experience with Microsoft Exchange 2016 or greater, Microsoft365 or Exchange Online.
  • Experience in the administration of Windows active directory systems and network, including Group Policy and Scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Virtual Basic, perl, bash).
  • Strong understanding and experience in working with mobile smartphones (iOS and Android) and tablets (iPadOS and Android).
  • Must have proven ability to install and repair standard workstations and peripheral equipment.
  • Sound experience in cabling and managing network devices.
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain VMware server infrastructure.
  • Configure basic elements of Cisco, HP, Meraki, Fortinet and other network devices is preferred.
  • Functional knowledge of network topologies and stateful firewall operations.
  • Experience in the administration and maintenance of telephony and voice recording systems.
  • Implementation and monitoring of system backups and disaster recovery
  • Deploy cybersecurity mandated system upgrades, patches, and perform modifications to ensure systems are protected against known exploits.
  • Customer Service skills – Manages difficult or emotional customer situations; responds promptly to customer needs; solicits customer feedback to improve service; responds to requests for services and assistance; meets commitments.
