West Tennessee Healthcare is Hiring an Environmental Services Manager Near Martin, TN

Overview

Responsible for the planning, organizing, coordinating, controlling and directing of all aspects of the Environmental Services departments for both Milan General Hospital and Volunteer Hospital. Under the general supervision of the hospital CEOs and is responsible for the overall management of the Environmental Services Departments. Employee is subject to call back and overtime as required by the hospitals.

Responsibilities

  • Under the general supervision of the CEO(s) and is responsible for the overall management of the Environmental Services Departments. Incumbent is subject to call.
  • Plans and schedules services of departments within budget as approved by CEO(s).Establishes standards and work methods: takes steps to assure quality and quantity of performance, and evaluates results. Establishes work schedules and assignments.
  • Keeps informed of new methods, equipment, supplies, etc. and establishes plans for improving department to accomplish work with efficiency and economy.
  • Communicates policies and procedures, discusses job problems with employees and encourages development of habits and attitudes for improved performance and good employee’s attitudes.
  • Maintains working relationships with staff of other departments and coordinates work to facilitate over-all interdepartmental operations.
  • Administers, studies, prepares and submits annual budget for supplies, equipment, personnel, and linen supplies.
  • Inspects rooms, wards, halls, offices, laboratories and all other areas for which the housekeeping departments has cleaning responsibilities to insure that standards of cleanliness are being maintained and that furnishings and equipment are in satisfactory condition of appearance, repair and utility.
  • Organizes and administers a departmental training program to instruct and upgrade the staff in present cleaning standards and procedures, in the use of equipment and supplies, in infection control techniques; and in new techniques, methods, equipment, etc. as changes occur.
  • Serves on hospital committees, such as safety, quality, infection control, etc.
  • Knowledge of use and purpose of wide variety of chemicals, germicides, detergents, soaps, floor finishes, waxes, cleaning aids, toilet supplies, etc. and the application to hospital housekeeping.
  • Knowledge of use and application of various types of equipment used for cleaning including carpet and resilient tile and any special purpose rooms such as surgery.
  • Knowledge of aspects techniques, infection control and conductive floor care.
  • Is responsible for performance evaluation, hiring, discharge, and all other personnel actions.
  • Submits requisitions for necessary supplies to Purchasing Department.
  • Performs personnel functions, related to Administration, timekeeping, payroll sheets, vacation records, accident and incident reports.
  • Supervises linen supply for hospitals to ensure an adequate amount of linen is available at all 3
  • Develops and maintains a positive work climate and overall team effort of the department.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
  • Qualifications

    Skill and proficiency in the principles, concepts, and proper technique of accepted Environmental Control Practice. Ability to compile information and prepared detailed informational reports, interpret hospital and department policy, conduct training activities. Such proficiency normally acquired through four years of college training.

    EXPERIENCE:

    3 years’ experience in principles and practical application of Hospital Environmental Control and 2 years supervisory role in the hospital setting.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    Proficiency in the principles and practical application of Hospital Environmental Control.

    INTERPERSONAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Performs responsibilities as required or directed.

    Interpersonal relations for providing direction and guidance, instruction or technical direction where skill, tact in communication is required.

    Contributes to a positive work environment and the overall team effort of the department.

    DIRECTION/SUPERVISION REQUIREMENTS:

    Ability to supervise and to assign as well as monitor the work of the employees.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    Performs heavy lifting, Continuous standing, walking, bending and reaching.

    Ability to operate small equipment (vacuum cleaner, shampooer and buffer)

    ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

    Exposure to dust, dirt, fumes, human waste, spillage, blood, trash, needles, blood and body fluids.

    Exposure to outside weather conditions when transporting trash and linen.

    Exposure to dirty linen.

    OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS:

    Understands and adheres to West Tennessee Healthcare’s compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.

    Assumes responsibility for insuring continued professional growth.

    The employee is expected to adhere to all WTH policies and procedures.
