West Chester University is Hiring a 23-11 Custodial Supervisor - 2nd Shift Near West Chester University, PA

The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for operational conduct of housekeeping services for an assigned area within the University including of academic, administrative, and residential areas, and athletic facilities. The Custodial Supervisor prioritizes work within the assigned area and maintains the departmental work standards, work assignments, cleaning policy, procedure goals and objectives. The Supervisor is required to make decisions based on a full knowledge of these guidelines and report deviations.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining the operating plan integrity, effectiveness and efficiency via staff oversight and compliance to departmental work standards, work assignments and cleaning policy and procedures.
  • Assuring safe operating environment for employees through compliance with OSHA regulations and Custodial Services Department safety and training programs.
  • Inspecting equipment for safe operation, facilitates repair requests and ensures completion as necessary.
  • Planning and directing work performed by employees.
  • Tracking and monitoring assigned work for beginning to completion.
  • Remaining fully compliant and trains employees in proper utilization of equipment and materials, chemical products, and the use of protective devices.
  • Conducting quality inspections of all work performed throughout areas of assignment utilization quality insurance process and program. Notes deficiencies and follows-up with corrective action. Reports facility maintenance items needing repair with particular emphasis on lighting, dispensers, and other related items associated with housekeeping functional work.
  • In accordance with Senior Management for the area, communicating frequently with the appropriate Building Administrator or his/her designee in regard to the status of all housekeeping operations. Communication in this regard must take place no less than twice weekly.
  • Responding to customer complaints with appropriate measure of courtesy and service. Developing action plans for response and resolution of re-occurring service issues.
  •  Effectively communicating with senior management via provided communication device(s), email, and required verbal and written reports.
  • Generating daily reports in accordance with departmental requirements to include but are not limited to daily activity, key assignment, staff call outs, maintenance issues, and injury reports.
  • Immediately notifying proper parties of any injury and/or accident. Investigate injuries and/or accidents and complete proper documentation.
  • Documenting and initiating necessary disciplinary action in accordance with University policy and procedure as well as contractual agreements and labor-relations standard practices.
  • Responsible for supplying requisition submittals, distribution, and inventory control to maintain the appropriate level of supplies necessary for staff to conduct proper cleaning operations.
  • Assisting with overtime determination, approval, posting, assignment, and equalization process.
  • Conducting daily key sign in/out procedure and maintain the integrity of the key sign in/out log.
  • Responding to emergencies by assigning and coordinating the proper level of staff and equipment necessary to provide an effective solution to the situation.
  • Accepting leave requests; determines if approval is within the guidelines of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and if it is feasible to operational needs; refers discrepancies to management.
  • Providing event coverage as needed and ensure event services are provided in accordance with established requirements.
  • Recommending and presenting suggestions for continuous and add value process improvements.
  • Exhibiting strong leadership, organization, teamwork, collaboration, inclusiveness, motivation, staff recognition, and staff development.
  • Maintaining high customer service levels through client interaction, follow up and custodial performance levels.
  • Ensuring custodial staff conduct is professional and in accordance with university civility standards.
  • Supporting management in successfully evaluating, improving and implementing University and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Preparing annual employee performance reviews for all assigned staff. Employee reviewed must be complete, on time, and in accordance with departmental work standards and assignments.
  • Performing related duties as assigned.

As a member of the Facilities Divisional staff, this position is deemed “essential” and must remain or report to work during partial or full day closing of the University due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons.

Selection Criteria: Minimum Education & Training:

  • One year as a Custodial Worker 2 (commonwealth title); OR
  • Two years of experience performing custodial work.
  • Valid Driver's License
     
      Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods, and practices used in custodial work.
  • Knowledge of aseptic and sanitation materials hazards and safety guidelines.
  • Ability to read and understand written materials.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
