West 4th Strategy is Hiring a Public Affairs Specialist Near Boston, MA

ROLE

We need an experienced Public Affairs Specialist to support senior principals at the Department of Justice (DOJ). This is a full-time opportunity. We can offer job security and stability, a competitive salary, and a comprehensive benefits package.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Public Affairs 

  • Work closely with Executive Assistant, Executive Officer, and public affairs staff
  • Help prepare daily press briefings and binders
  • Research specific topics, policies, events, and speakers
  • Review, analyze, and report on policies, legislation, regulations, and local, regional, and national news
  • Organize and prepare clippings on relevant media coverage 
  • Draft internal and external communications, e.g., remarks, speeches, talking points, etc.
  • Review and edit all material for grammar, punctuation, spelling, formatting, etc.
  • Cultivate close working relationships with media, community, and other external stakeholders
  • Help use and manage social media platforms, channels, and content
  • Help public affairs work with local, regional, and national media 

Advance Planning & Community Engagement

  • Provide advance all principals, i.e., Attorney (USA), First Assistant US Attorney (AUSA), and senior staff
  • Manage calendar, schedule, and events and activities for principals, i.e., USA, First AUSA, and senior staff
  • Work with community outreach and engagement team 
  • Research, analyze, and report on constituencies and stakeholders
  • Help plan, prepare, coordinate, and manage outreach and engagement events
  • Secure and arrange logistics for events
  • Assist with the coordination and logistical details for USAs events calendar
  • Help prepare event briefings and binders detailing logistics, community information, etc.
  • Support and assistant USA and other principals at events 

Diversity & Inclusion

  • Assist the Diversity and Inclusion Committee 
  • Help plan, prepare, coordinate, and manage monthly events for diversity and inclusion
  • Research, analyze, and report on relevant, equity, and inclusion topics, policies, etc.

Project Management

  • Help coordinate and ensure timely execution of projects and tasks
  • Manage all work super attention to detail and conscientiousness 
  • Complete high-quality work under pressure with competing deadlines

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • At least one year of hands-on experience in politics, campaigns, legislative analysis, etc.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills

BACKGROUND

  • Progressive and relevant experience

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

LOCATION

  • Boston, MA 02210

CLEARANCE

  • U.S. citizenship required since this role supports the U.S. federal government

CLIENT

  • U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Massachusetts

TRAVEL

  • Travel required within the district

WORK HOURS

  • 40 hours per week
  • 8 hours per day
  • Overtime, as required

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION

  • Employment Classification Eligibility — W2 or 1099

  • Not eligible for relocation benefits

Specific vision abilities required by this job include the use of computer monitor screens up to 80% of the time.
