Position Summary

The Safety Manager is a leader that chairs the Safety Committee and provides advice and consultation to managers to promote a safe work environment. The Safety Manager participates in the development of and leads the implementation of safety policies and procedures at the site/location level to maintain organizational compliance with The Joint Commission standards. The Safety Manager investigates accidents and incidents to determine cause and identify trends. In addition, the Safety Manager provides oversight of the Safety Management Plan and the Environment of Care and Safety Policy.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience working in Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or related field.
  • Experience in a health center or medical environment.
  • Strong familiarity with OSHA safety standards.
  • Assist and support the organization’s effort to meet standards of High Reliability.
  • Must be able to facilitate multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Experience leading implementation efforts across multiple locations.
  • Computer (PC) literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point, Outlook email and database software.
  • Efficient time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and organizational needs.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive, professional relationships among a diverse client group.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong critical thinking ability.
  • Commitment to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
  • Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Safety related field.
  • Health and safety certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of the Joint Commission Environment of Care Standards.
  • 6 years of related experience preferred.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Leads the ongoing implementation of the Safety Management Plan, the Environment of Care and Safety Policy and the Illness and Injury Prevention Program.
  • Functions as point person for all Safety Related matters.
  • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
  • Conducts employee training on applicable safety standards.
  • Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
  • Inspects safety equipment; recommends replacements.
  • Drafts and implements internal safety standards and policies.
  • Reviews accidents and incidents reported by employees and visitors to the facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands and arms to reach. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
