Description

Licensed Vocational Nurses (2) – CRBH Program

Department: Behavioral Health

Reports to: Program Manager or Designee

Status: Full-Time

Shifts:  PM (3PM - 11:30PM) and NOC (11:30pm - 7:00am)

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Position Summary

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) coordinates and administers medical services to Crisis Receiving for Behavioral Health & (CRBH) clients, including vitals, assessing, screening, educating, discharging and treating client conditions. We welcome newly licensed graduates to apply.

Required Qualifications

  • Current license as Licensed Vocational Nurse with the State of California required.
  • Two plus years of clinical experience with diverse adult population preferred OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • New graduates with license are encouraged to apply.
  • Fluency in additional languages preferred.
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification.
  • Knowledge of community resources including Medicare, Medi-Cal, Supplemental Security Income {SSI) and the county's General Assistance Program.
  • Knowledge of medications, usages, interactions and effects of substance use drugs.
  • Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress; react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Educate patients and provide instruction on proper care and treatment.
  • Maintain detailed records.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the provision of services for the underserved and sensitivity working with a variety of people from low-income populations, with diverse educational, lifestyle, ethnic, and cultural origins; disabled, homeless, substance users, HIV (AIDS) infected, and/or physiologically impaired.
  • Excellent customer service experience including active listening, problem solving, and the ability to remain calm in emotional or stressful situations.
  • Computer (PC) literate; including electronic health record, word processing and e-mail, required.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing and demonstrate a high level of listening skills.
  • Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing.
  • Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.
  • Must have valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Act as on-site medical professional and direct care of clients according to policy and protocol.
  • Perform LVN duties including preparing rooms, rooming patients, taking medical histories, recording vital signs, taking temperatures, and other required nursing duties.
  • Encourage patient's general wellbeing through health promotion.
  • Follow standardized clinic policies and protocols for patient treatments and conditions.
  • Administer injections and PRN according to standing order.
  • Keep accurate records for reporting to various funding and inspecting agencies.
  • Maintain files for regulatory compliance and inspection.
  • Inventory medications and supplies; rotate inventory on a regular basis to minimize expirations.
  • Review patient medical charts and prepare interdepartmental paperwork and documentation.
  • Record all client interactions in EHR system.
  • Assist with daily operations such as laundry, food distribution, cleaning etc.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle, or reach. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and drugs, and the lack of personal care. The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
